What film did you watch last night?

River's Edge (1986)

The story of a group of teenagers and how they deal with a friend's murder of his girlfriend. Partially based on a true crime were the killer showed the murdered body to his friends and then crime went unreported for two days.

Good performances from a young cast, including Keanu Reeves when he was quite fearless in the roles he chose to play in his early acting career.

6/10

Haven't heard of this one! Sounds good!

Doubt (2008)

A catholic priest is accused of inappropriate behaviour.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Meryl Streep and Viola Davies are all great as usual and Amy Adams was very good too.

Really enjoyed this one. It starts off a touch too slow but once they get in to the meat of the story, it's a joy to watch.

8.5/10

The Holdovers
Thoroughly enjoyed it. Funny and great story without being over sentimental. Superb acting from the the three leads and I always enjoy Paul Giamatti.

I watched this the other night, I thought it was a bit slow but turned out to be good. I didn’t know what to expect as I didn’t read anything about it.

Went and seen Argylle last night, woah, what a disappointment. I’m not into spoilers but the last 20 minutes completely ruined what was up until that point a good film and good story line! Just absolute nonsense to end a film.

Tuesday night I went to see All Of Us Strangers I don’t even know what the film was about, it was so boring my mind kept wondering. Would not recommend it unless you want to fall asleep on a plane.

Completing the star wars marathon, Return of the Jedi. It's been a long time since the last watch, and it was interesting to see the slightly added comedy focus as well as how much time was spent on seeming filler eg C3PO being an ewok god. The wife enjoyed it though.

I haven't told her about the sequels, nor shall I ever.

Yeah great movie, set the 70s theme really well, and they all played their parts extremely good. Is a slow burner but it keeps you hooked throughout.

Holdovers I was expecting to be an us vs them chaos around the school, but the development of the story and the deeper connections helps it become a much better film and some good story telling. You have reasons to like and dislike all the characters and the roles are played very well. I think being slow paced helps because of how much time passes in the film.

The Greatest Night In Pop on Netflix. There was a lot I didn't know about the We Are The World recording but one thing I definitely now know is Lionel Richie is the nicest guy on the planet.

The Beekeeper (2024)

It's a Jason Statham film that delivers exactly what you'd expect. It's not going to win any awards and it's wasn't dross either. Grab the popcorn, switch off your brain and let the bone crunching begin.

The Kitchen (2023) - Did not finish

A boring dystopian inner city drama about an independent community refusing to give up its home.

Not much happens beyond this social commentary premise as the film focuses on a more personal story and whilst the acting and characters were ok, I gave up waiting for something to happen.

The setting is far too clean and civilized for what is supposed to be the poverty line, no other viewpoint is established to determine if they are right or wrong or why society has forced them into this state.

Argylle (2024) - 5/10

Entertaining but also vacuous at times with little humour or charm. The plot was standard spy shlock but went on far too long with obvious plot twists and nothing awe-inspiring.

The overall style was good and it was never boring, but the visual set pieces were too little, too late and the music didn’t suit those scenes at all.

The fight scenes were ok and the acting and cast of characters were good but the CGI looked cheap.

The same last week, somehow managed to get half way, and then chucked in the towel. So boring.
