What film did you watch last night?

Uncharted - 5/10

I just can’t see Wahlburg as Sully. Holland was alright as a young Drake. Found myself getting bored through the film.
This film offended me on so many levels. What a waste of a license to make what could have been 5 amazing films.

I don't get why if anything Walhberg isn't play Nate when he's older and Tom in the younger bits, ala what happens in the games with the flashbacks etc...

TBH though, THIS guy IS and should have played Nate in it, I mean this is just a fan made short movie for YT and look how good this is! He IS Nate!

The guy in this doesn't look like Sully but majorly has the personality dialed!

I watched the first one recently and have not done so for years. It reminded me why the Lethal Weapons series (first few) was one the best buddy cop movies at the time. Still pretty good to this day.

If i recall correctly it wasnt just finding him. The immortal "
DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY
"

The funniest part of LW2 is the scene where Murtaugh visits the South African consulate and inquires about emigrating there.

Zone of Interest - 7/10

Enjoyed it, though it's not got the harrowing emotional gut punch of other holocaust movies it still gives a quite unsettling feeling watching the banal normality of a family life that you know is predecated on the omnipresent atrocities that are happening just over the wall, which are played out as a backdrop of sounds and inferences, without any focus on the detail.

Ginger Snaps (2000)

Low budget werewolf film with two girls as the main characters. I have no idea were all the praise comes from for this film. Watching it now feels like a bunch a film students were given a large budget to make there end of term show reel. Everything about it felt amateurish, even the acting came across as "this is what we learned in class today". The third act is conveluted and drags on in desperate attempt to make a decent run time.

3/10

Seven Psychopaths (2012)

I remember watching this for the first time thinking it was a great film and as good as In Bruges. But my second watch last night after a ten or eleven year gap, I think it's still a great film, just not as good as I remember.

8/10

I’d originally given it a 3/10 but it sufficiently picked up in the last third high I quite enjoyed.

Walhburg should have been nowhere near the film though. I can kind of see Holland growing into the role, but Sully was horribly miscast.

It was a role made for Nathan Fillion, but the Fillion of the Firefly era.

Yeah it makes zero sense why he's in it.
Yeah Nathan embodies Nate big time!

Wingwomen (2023) - 6/10

A quirky French action comedy with fun action scenes and a likeable cast, although it could have been a lot more exciting or thrilling. It’s a bit like a more mature Charlie’s Angels where the characters have smarts rather than just sex appeal.

The plot is simple and straightforward and has been done before and better, but the laid back, ‘no fuss’ style holds some appeal. Whilst frequently humorous and good overall, the ending was a bit anticlimactic and felt over edited with little explanation.

In the Mouth of Madness (1994)

A John Carpenter film I'd never heard of, let alone seen. I thought I was pretty good with some excellent practical monster effects and makeup.

6.5/10
Have you seen Cigarette Burns which is a short horror film (just 59 minutes long) by John Carpenter?

If you haven't, it is about a man who hunts for a copy of a rare film, which is said to incite the watching audience, into a frenzy.

I think it is disturbing and great!

The Kitchen - 7/10

Cast is really good, directing and cinematography are both excellent. It's just a shame that the story is a bit unadventurous. Also found Ian Wright in it slightly immersion breaking, just a weird choice.

Aliens (Special Edition)

Great film, not a huge amount to say other than it looked absolutely amazing on Apple TV… presumably a new restored version but really very good.

The more I watch it, the more I gripe about them surviving the exploding facility - it just seems such a luck fest that they made it out of there with all of that going on! One of those things where if they toned down the special effects and bombast, it might have aged better. So I just kind of ‘ignore’ it.

Ripley really is such a bad ass though - when she suits up at the end

The Thin Red Line

I’d never seen this South Pacific WW2 film. It’s a bit of a strange one tbh. It’s really quite bleak and has many scenes of soldiers struggling with injuries, dying or just having a bad time. All of that speaks for itself, but there is a lot of ‘poetic narration’ from internal monologues. I presume was intended to sound profound, and really push the idea that war makes people explore their own emotions, but it was mostly a big a miss for me - I found it distracting.

A minor gripe is that the film is bookended by quasi-cameos from John Travolta and George Clooney, who have such ‘star presence’ that it’s also a bit jarring and distracting.

I enjoyed it but not one I’d rush to rewatch.

7/10
