What film did you watch last night?

Badland Hunters (2024) - 6/10

A mixed post-apocalyptic film with a setting inspired by Mad Max and a plot inspired by Resident Evil.

The story isn’t particularly good and drags a bit in the first half, but it picks up in the second half with plenty of fast, bloody and brutal action.

The setting looks good, the characters and their backstories are ok and the light humour fits in well, but it’s uneven with some plot points barely explored.
oh, it's got the dude that played Gilgamesh in the abomination that was MCU's Eternals - he was actually one of the few positives in that film so must give this a whirl. also reminds me i really need to watch train to busan!

Does it?

It's the acknowledged chronological order isn't it?

And I saw ESB in the cinema on release so that reveal is well and truly gone ,:p

The theatrical release order makes ‘the Darth Vader reveal’ a massive surprise twist, rather than something which is signposted all the way from Episode 1.

This is why many people suggest watching 4 and 5 before 1, 2 and 3… if you are watching from scratch.

Edit - I said this because of @Vandle saying his wife had never seen them. But you aren’t him, so no issue :D

As I say, it's not a.reveal.in this instance and wanted to follow the story chronologically:)

Can't imagine there's many people."into" the series enough not to know the reveal.:)

Yeah totally - I think I’ll show them to my (currently hypothetical) kid(s) in that order, just to see their reaction to the reveal. There’s some good ones of that on YouTube :p

Finally got round to watching Saltburn last night.

It was a good movie but didn't really live up to all the hype for me. Admittedly that might be because someone had ruined the ending for me!

I do agree however she already knew the reveal. I think it's the worst kept spoiler in movie history.

Nimona (2023) - 8/10

Nimona truly is the star of this movie – the embodiment of anarchy, chaotically funny, full of energy, fast paced jokes and exhilarating action. It’s a shame therefore the rest of the characters are pushing an agenda, annoying, bland or cardboard cutouts.

The mix of a medieval and futuristic setting is unnecessary and jarring – they should have just stuck with one style and embraced the anachronisms.

The modern art style mixing 3D characters with 2D backdrops looks good, the music is fun and overall, it’s great fun to watch, even if it is a bit over the top silly and slapstick at times.
