What film did you watch last night?

Following

Minimalist with great synth score and a bit of a David Lynch feeling. From an artistic perspective I think Christopher Nolan peaked in his first couple of films.

8/10

More of a Lazenby fan eh…

OHMSS is actually very good!

But i grew up on Bond - gadgets, women, witty comments etc. CR was very good, as was DC in this, but they fast became just like any other spy movie, and let's not get started on how bad some of the movies actually were.

I think it's made it much harder now we live in such politically correct times.

Said no-one ever.

I love the bit where he has that fight in the hallway after reading the magazine and the bad guy has to literally let him win and back down so they could get the take done, pathetic.

If SC or RM had done that or even TD, that film could have been amazing, I don't know wtf they were thinking casting him. Absolute melt, and cant act for ****, let alone do action sequences.

Agree that he isn't a good actor, he knew that before he took the role, but disagree with everything else.

For whatever Lazenby’s limitations as an actor (rule of thumb, he’s good at action, stilted at everything else), this is the Bond flick blessed with the best plot, a genuine sense of emotion and a spirit closest to Ian Fleming’s novels that have seen it grow in critical/fan stature in the years since its release where it was greeted with outright derision.

They should have known he was **** and not cast him ;) If you got rid of him and got Sean to do it and it would have been incredible. As nothing is wrong with the film other than him/his acting/fact he's in it - I'm not taking any digs at the film, just him. He ruined as I say what could have been awesome, given the location/writing etc...
You are the first bond fan I've ever heard defend him being in it tbh.

I'm not, i'm saying the same as you!! OHMSS is let down by Lazenby:

The only lingering doubt remains is how much better it might have been with a more natural, charismatic actor in the tux.

I do.

I love OHMSS. GL was ok as Bond. I wish he'd been given a further movie to prove himself as a good choice.

The 81% Rotten Tomatoes score and 6.7/10 IMDB rating says many people do.like it.
Modern audiences/internet era people will watch any old dog **** though, just look at netflix etc etc...

The real people who watched it when it came out and for years after all agree it is the literal worst Bond ever and that it should have been SC/RM/TD and would have made for an awesome film. GL ruined it.

You just have to look at older reviews and critic reviews to see it is highly regarded as one of the Best Bond films. I'm hardly modern or Internet era. Nearly 43 and have always loved the film.

Haha I genuinely as a big time old school Bond fan, have never until today heard 1 person ever rate it or GL, genuinely, you 2 are the first people I've ever heard say it's good despite him being in it, people were furious when it came out how they'd betrayed the fans with sucha terrible performance/casting.
Which is a shame as IF it'd been one of the good Bonds, it would be a near perfect old Bond film - that part I wouldn't dispute, but due to him being in it/**** it simply isn't, it's just insulting to the other Bonds who have done Fleming proud.

In September 2012, it was announced that On Her Majesty's Secret Service had topped a poll of Bond fans run by 007 Magazine to determine the greatest ever Bond film. Goldfinger came second in the poll and From Russia With Love was third. It also became a bigger success when it got its home video release. While many critics at the time weren't kind to it the fans and general public enjoyed it.

Christopher Nolan also ranks it as his favourite Bond film and was apparently a big influence on his film Inception.

Also topping top grossing film of January 1970 and was top grossing film of the year in the UK.

You may not like it but plenty other others really do.
