What game wowed you the most when you first played it?

Del Piero was a decent little player on that and Desailly was class too. One of my favourite football games of all time that. Do you remember "Welcome to our club, we look forward to much success with this new partnership" scene?

The later versions had to FMV sequnce didn't they? Older versions didn't, maybe im confused with Champ man, but i remember that yeah.

Del Piero controlled like a freak, but i liked fast players, just pass to franco baresi and run whole pitch :D

I wore out my control pads (it took me a while to find amiga control pads!), but with those i could curl shots in, i knew to the pixel where to shoot from. If you used all the controls to the fullest, it was actually skillful as a game.

What game had the biggest 'wow' factor for you when you first played it, be it because of the graphics, gameplay or whatever? :)

I think for me it was Mario 64. Partly because I was tineh when it came out and I'd never seen anything like it.

Probably Diablo II. It was one of the first games I ever played properly and kept me entertained for days both online and offline.

Ye it was a little FMV i think. Del pieros close control was amazing. I loved players that could literally spin round 360 and not lose the ball and he was one of them

Also FFVII once I blew the first reactor

Yea that was very cool. tbh I still remember first time watching the intro. Man that gave me chills. There was so many moments in that whole game that just blew me away. erm not sure if it counts as a spolier but,

Spolier Alert:

When Aeris (Aerith) gets killed by Sephiroth.

I have to say I nearly cried. :p I wish there was more games like FFVII :(

GOD DAMMIT GIVE US A REMAKE !!!!!

I can actually remember 2:

1. On the C64 when Encounter (by Paul Woakes) first started up. Best ever 3D effect seen at the time

2. The first time I ran the original Doom back in '93. Never imagined such a thing possible.

Never played games with such INITIAL impact since.

Out Run (Arcade) - driving a ferrari at 181mph in a big red replica ferrari arcade machine - how can you not go wow?
Afterburner (Arcade) - flying a tomcat in a big replica cockpit arcade machine - how can you not go wow?
Stunt Car Racer (Amiga) - real 3d! its like real life!
Wolfenstein 3D (PC) - first time saw a 3d game with textures (ok, so its fake 3d but it was like nothing else)
Wipeout (Playstation - never seen full textured 3d move so smoove and the music and sound topped it off)
Tomb Raider 2 (PC with 3Dfx Voodoo - first time I saw a PC beat consoles/arcade at graphics!)
Prey (PC) - very atmospheric and some cool original effects

Half Life 2 would have been on my list if it didnt have 1.5 years worth of hype, screenshots, and leaked previews made by hackers before it came out :p - kinda watered-down the 'wow' punch.

I think thats the major prob with a lot of games now. Theres always so much hype even when the game has just been said to be in the making. Expectations get high and upon release these expectations get crushed.

I feel game developers need to keep games as hush hush as possible until release. I think that would serve a much better "wow" smack. Because you have no idea what to expect.

I remember playing an arcade game that was similar to after burner and at the end you had to land your plane on an air craft carrier.

The wow about this was the fact that the arcade machine had free movement so you could spin completely upside down etc - it was very disorientating!!

Can anyone else remember going on this?
