What gamers want?

A game with two levels of realistic gaming genres.

For example, I was playing X3 Reunion the other day. It's a game where you fly in a space ship and do various missions. It's the biggest most open ended game i've ever played in my life and I play a lot of games.
I was thinking, wouldn't be great if you could land on any side of the planet and you have missions on the planet to do as well. Like for example, the government of the said planet is in distress and needs a Tom Clancy kinda guy to take out the terrorists holding the hostages. After completing the mission, you get money for upgrades to your ship or your guns and you get good rep with the said planet and your rep with the terrorists or other rogue factions decline.

So in general, i'd love to see a two genre game that keeps it's gameplay well. Nothing that'll cause one genre of the game to be crap and the other to be good.

This may require two engines in the game subsequently requiring two codes, which may increase HDD usage. But seeing as HDD are cheap as chips these days I dont see this being a problem. And the media shouldn't be either seeing as higher capacity DVDs are coming out. Anyone still running a CD ROM doesn't have the capacity to run modern day games tbh.

x4 MMOFPS.

That would be the greatest game ever, with planets you can land on and do soldier fps. 3 or 4 massive fractions starting off. Pirate factions holding asteroid belts and out of the way worlds. Then let players decide what planets they want to hit, with a real political system..

Something like that with arcade space fighter combat that you can use joypad/stick. Hopefully as an update to Wing Commander: Privateer.

An option to have capital ships would be great as well (a la EVE) and then use the player pilot-capable fighters to help protect it using in-game speech for co-ordination.

A Grand Theft Auto MMO.

Oh yeah, now THAT would pwn if done correctly :D

EDIT: Heh, just realised someone else posted the exact same idea more or less. Well, great minds think alike :D

This is why the gaming industry is going to ****. People's #1 concerns are "OMG graphics!"

Here's mine:

1. More gameplay. Better gameplay. Longer gameplay. That is all.

nah, that's simply too unoriginal.

Which is what I want, more originality, it demands a lot of creativity from the Games developers but im sick and tired of seeing things like:

Doom 3
Half Life 2
Quake IV
Need for Speed Carbon (it's the 11th or something right?)
Halo 3
Splinter Cell Double Agent

and so on so forth. It's such a shame that they're too scared to realise new games and instead just make sequels to popular franchises. We still buy them but i'd rather have something a bit different.

mi totally agree all the games I used to love *** new version have been rubbish,

Doom3
HL2
Splinter cell
UT got bad around 2002.

ect ect.

There's plenty of unique and original PC games out there actually. You just need to look further than "Large Generic Software Company X" to find them. Big companies are obviously going to peddle to the mass market, and go with proven formulas. There's no use railing against something that's never going to change.

I'm saying they're necessarilly bad, it's just that it's sad to see nearly every single game now being a sequel, it's extremely rare to see a game come out that isn't a sequel.

Trouble is how do you find them?

Too many companies believe that MMO money is only to be found in fantasy games at the moment, since science fiction isn't as popular. If you believe the "experts" anyway.

it's cos they so short sighted, look how popular games like BF2 are. Now imagine that on a global scale, with "real battles". once one battle say Russian vs America. A group could split of and form an alliance against *** world confederation. and keep there skills, always evolving with new weaponry. damn I wish I won the lottery.

A Supreme commander style game mixed with a BF2 style game, with all the units (foot soldiers, cars, tanks, choppers, transport craft, large boats etc.)controlled fps style and a chain of command that goes from squad level up to the top commander, on a massive global battlefield.

The commander would control the overal strategic battle with the less ranks controlling squads etc. The commander and other high ranks could promote\demote people, you could start as a lowly soldier and work your way to squad leader, platoon leader, wing leader, admiral etc. depending on your superiors and how you play. Maybe you could make it all the way to the top!
