What have you done to your car today?

It's a car, it can always be fixed with time and some resources. no need to lose sleep over it.

The big issue is about lessons being learned. When will you learn!

Easy enough to change the engine in one of these.

Impressive skills as always...... But hardly end of world stuff.

Acme and the guy who just purchased what sounds like a nail of an MPS should start a club.

Sell it, scrap it, do a lease on a new 320D.

It might be boring but there won't be any drama.

I do like the drama though but I think there is something wrong with you, because you will do it again 6 months later, I think deep down you must love this.

I hope you will learn from your mistakesssss but will you?

I have to say, swapping the engine would be a seriously intense project, but a thoroughly enjoyable one. Take it off the road, buy an engine, refresh it so you know it's at a good starting place then put it in. You'll feel a huge sense of accomplishment and you'll know it's in good shape.

He'll end up paying £2000 for the 90bhp 1.6. Some people aren't good at cars and there is nothing wrong with that as long as they accept it.

Oh man... was that a dig at me there?

Turns out the mazdas fine, was just a loose intake pipe / dead maf... dealers fixing it like they should.

v6 swap or really anything other than the stock engine is a real big job on one of these, not something to take on lightly. Straight swap is an easy job, you won't need anything more than a basic halfords type tool kit(*), a trolley jack, stands and a hoist. Get it done in a day with a mate to help.

*don't get halfords though, 12 side sockets are hopeless, get a kit with 6 side.

My dad's answer to everything is 'pay someone else to do it'

That's fine, it's like I'd pay someone to fly planes for me, I pay someone to do my dry cleaning, I'd pay someone to cook me my indian curry.

People are good at different things, if I know it can be done better than I can manage (value vs time spent), I be happy to pay for it, it's why we have jobs. Not everything needs to be done ourselves.
