What have you done to your car today?

Woo shiny bits.
I have had the following arrive today:
Gearbox oil
Front drop links
Shock top mounts

Just waiting for B12 kit to arrive now :)

Ahh, that's another thing, drop links. Might as well do those while the subframe is off :P I was tempted by the B12's, but I'd rather settle for the lowering springs and then go for the adjustable dampening ones when they come out (soon!)

I'm happy with what ever bilstien set the dampening too.
Never been into altering that

I've somehow only lost like £1.5K total on my cars, and about the same again on repairs. :p
That's not too bad at all tbf, I've spent that getting my z4 the way I want haha. Mind you not all of it was fixing or refurbishing things.

I'm not done yet either.

Think I'm headed the same way with mine! Front axle refreshed, but I believe the intermediate column is now knocking :o

That and cosmetic changes upcoming such as new steering wheel!

On a similar note, just ordered myself 8 spark plugs from Halfords for a grand total of £16 thanks to stock clearance... £2 a plug for the proper NGK plugs isn't bad at all!

3k loss over 3+ years, could easily do that on depreciation on regular second hand cars, never mind complete lemons. Launch a YT channel for "Acme buys another car blind and flips it for less than he paid for it" (like wheeler dealers but without fixing them) and I'm sure the losses would be covered by the advertising revenue.

haha! I wanted my z4 to be as tight on the front end as possible so arms, bushes, drop links, tie rods, full alignment etc all were done.

then new wheels and proper rubber on too!

other than that I had a couple of small dents repaired and would like a front end respray to get rid of the stone chips on wings/bonnet/front bumper but those are normal and hard to avoid.

Acme that mk2 you had seemed a really nice example. Should have just kept that and sorted the issues on that. Had everything you would want from a MX5 with the LSD, box, nice colour etc. Most likely faster than the stanced out mk1 as well.

I would just get rid if I were you wrong shocks, hole in boot and burning oil. It is hardly the poster child of a car that has been maintained so God knows what else you will find. Get yourself a cheap standard MK2 from some elderly chap with a nice house and start from there.

Into the garage it goes, two replacement rear calipers plus these bits

ILM braided rear brake hoses (to match the fronts which I already had changed - these are the only braided hoses for the Mk3 MX5 to retain the proper bracket on the upper wishbone to stop them rubbing on the ARB)

New slider pins/boots from BiggRed

ATE Typ200 fluid

... The guy seemed totally genuine.... there was a small rot hole.

By this point I was getting concerned about what else I might not have been told about, and today I found out... Yesterday I noticed a bit of smoke, dark, perhaps with a slight blueish tinge. I checked the oil level and it was off the dipstick in under 500 miles. It had used 2 litres. Today the smoke is worse.

...

RUH ROH

Just get an engine for it, spend time fitting it, weld the thing then man up. Get rid of at least one of your sheds and stop believing everything the internet tells you about every car that takes your fancy at a bargain price.

The MK2 was a nice example, it just had a £750 chassis rail repair looming over it as well as a few other little bits which I thought this one wouldn't suffer from. Should have kept it though yeah. I would reverse the deal in a heartbeat but hey ho, live and (hopefully) learn. :p

The stanced out MK1 is quicker though, just a lot less comfy.

Yep, he must have lost more than that on the Celica alone?

Let me figure it out...

I've lost about £1400 on re-sale of cars. That isn't factoring in how much less this MK1 is worth than what I paid though, because I still have it. :p

So the cash you put into the mk1 you could have put in to the mk2 and had a very solid car. Do it properly next time and just get an MR2 ;) I was looking at MK2'S with my friend for a track car and all were bad or would need doing in the near future so we just bought one that all ready had the chassis legs done.
