What have you done to your car today?

When I drove my T-Sport after the new owner had bought it, he had fitted a short shift kit. I hated it.

I like a shorter stick which physically reduces the distance of the throw, but I don't like "short shifters" as such.

My Celica had a great gear shift, it was one of the few things about it which was nice... It had solid gearstick base bushings and gear linkage bushings, and a MWR short stick with a weighted knob. The red MX5 was nice too. The stock gear shift was very short and weighty.

I put a short throw shift kit on my 106 GTI and took it off after about two weeks, it was nowhere near as nice to use as the standard one.

It was notchy to the point of being obnoxious with no real benefit in my eyes.

Short shifters are a black art. It is not simply a case of lopping off the top. You have to change the fulcrum point as well plus everyone likes a different feel. My generation Celica has at least 6 different short shift kits for it and all are different lengths and shapes! Luckily for me the standard ST205 shifter has an adjustable fulcrum with the aid of a press ;).

you know I'd agree but if they have it in a list of parts that is a no-no then I it kinda tells me that it needs to be declared.

This is why I insured with Greenlight. must have reeled a list of mods as long as my arm from Hybrid turbo to clear indicators. All I need to do is PM one of their employees on the many owners forums and get my mod list updated free of charge. Don't think they do BMW's though.

'After detaching the inner clips, you will find that your old head unit slides out easily with a firm but gentle tug.'

30 minutes later...

Yeah they don't do BMW. I'll have to ring around come renewal and see if I can find a specialist that will insure me with some mods.

The gearsticks on the Caterhams at Palmersport are virtually non-existent and so easy to stick it in the wrong gear.
I'm glad it's not just me who thought this!

I ended up doing the caterham donut challenge thingy in 2nd gear from start to finish, as not fluffing a gear change was better for people's times than setting off in first like a scalded proverbial in a cloud of smoke :p

MX5 is a bit like it too. I nearly managed to spin it to 9500rpm earlier almost getting 2nd instead of 4th

What car is that? The knobs look incredibly similar to my GTV's.

2000 Alfa Romeo 156, 2.0 Twin Spark, Selespeed. It's no sports car, but still a lot of fun to drive (redlines at 7k). Motor is still quite fresh, the car has only done ~71,250 miles.

I would love a GTV!

:)

The GTV was great, other than the fact that I thought it would fall apart or break on me every time I drove it. The V6 was lovely and it looked gorgeous (which I guess is all you can ever ask for from an Alfa :D)

Oh, you can ask for whatever you want... you just won't get it.

:p

They did a sprint both times I was there (at the same time as the off-road experience). Mirrored circuit where you raced the other sides time. The amount of times I tried to set off in 3rd was rather embarrassing. Wasn't so bad out on the normal circuit as you had a little more time to think about it, but stayed in 3rd then mostly anyway as it was cold and wet and steering with the throttle was more fun :D

Ohhh sorry I think I was getting you mixed up with someone else... Poxy mobile forum with no signatures!

Who's the guy with the modded NC MX5? The word Zoom made me think Mazda. :p

Two things. You're thinking of "frozennova".

Secondly, view the forums in landscape... signatures :p
