What have you done to your car today?

Attempted to change front discs and pads on the leon. Only tried the passenger side first, carrier bolts are seized solid no amount of heat or breaker bar working. Tried an electric torque wrench (Clarke, its crap) not working. Even if I did manage to get off the stupid screw for the disc is rusted on also.

I'll take it to the mechanics tomorrow.

Tried to do my discs and pads on Saturday, the last person had really gone at the retaining bolt for the disc and rounded it. No amount of drilling or hitting it with a chisel for 4 hours could get it out!

Why do people do it!

Not sure mate but it's very annoying. A job which I have the tools for but now have to pay a mechanic to sort out. May just get him to loosen the bolts and nip back up so I can do it myself.

After a few months of annoyance I think I've finally at least narrowed down the cause of my E90's brake juddering issue. I've changed my discs and pads twice and each time it's been fine for a few months and has then come back again. The discs/pads looked ok when I took them off and there was no obvious signs of anything wrong either.

This time I left the discs alone and just took the front calipers off then pushed the pistons back in then put the same pads back on. No more brake juddering. I'm sure it'll eventually come back but that at least confirms it's one of the calipers. Let's see how long it lasts first.

I fitted.... a Carbon Bonnet scoop to the MPS... Because race car.

I also have some carbon eyelids for the headlights... But unsure if they are too much chav

Well if I get annoyed by it (I think I may..) it will sell super super quick.
I am tempted to wrap it white to see if that reduces the "in your face" effect, as it does seem to have a positive effect on the air temps.

Oh and Cars now on the second Map revision. Cap of 18.5PSI. :)

Wrapping it could be an option actually. Smart thinking batman!
I know a lot of people love the black and white contrast (every owner of a 2l diesel bmw, Audi and Merc rep mobile ever) but I just think it's...meh. obviously my opinion so you can tell me where to shove it!

Finally got the second shock absorber delivered from CP4L, after waiting 6 weeks for it.

So the Passat has been on axel stands for pretty much the last 3 weeks waiting on it coming (the first one came no problem, the second one wasn't in the box, grrrrr). Anyway, so it came today so started changing out the shocks. So did the first one. No problem. Bump stop was in decent condition too, so fired it all back together, and fired it on.

Took second one off, and the bump stop is knackered. So now I'm gonna have to wait on that coming through. Never mind, what's a couple more days? Of course, that means I'll have to strip the first one back off so that I can swap the BS around on that too. Oh well. Should have maybe stripped it all off and had a look while waiting on the other shock.

Both original shocks were completely gone too though. Absolutely no rebound at all in there. So was definitely needed.

Is it not like coding a specific seat memory to the key? BMWs can do this but I don't have it set on mine. Basically, when you unlock the car with this particular key, it goes to a certain seat position (not sure whether this would correspond with one of the memory settings on the seat e.g. 1, 2 or 3). Check whether the seat moves when you get out/lock it - I bet it only moves once unlocked.
You're probably right. It moves when unlocked.

In other news, this awesome machine decided that the gap I was driving through was too narrow and performed an emergency stop and the Disco Sport behind ploughed into me. If I have to pay anything for this non-fault accident because it's a loaner, I am going to lose my ****. You could've fit a ******* bus through that gap and the thing slams on the anchors

Sounds like active city stop or whatever Volvo call it, basically if the car thinks it's going to hit something below 15mph or so it brakes itself

See, this is why I had the mindset of "my front shocks are coming off, so everything consumable attached is getting replaced", hence the new springs, boots, bump stops, spring pads and top mounts. For the sake of a hundred quid extra and no extra labour time it hopefully means the front struts never need to come off again.

Yeah sure. If it was the front I was doing, I'd probably be the exact same, now. But this is the first time I have ever done ANY suspension work myself. I had no real experience / idea what might or might not need replacing at the same time. Plus, realistically, this is my "airport" car, so wanted to keep costs down to a minimum where possible. Local factors are only £22 for new bumpstops / dustcovers, so not the end of the world.

Anyway, shouldn't be a problem. Should only take about 30 mins now to take the shock off, change bumpstop and refit. It is very easy to do. Hope my Alhambra is as easy, as it might need new rear shocks soon enough too.
