What have you done to your car today?

Finally got my car back from Mercedes... engine fixed with 4 new cam shaft adjuster magnets, oil change and a new Pirelli P7 tyre for free... since they changed it without asking me (was waiting all day Saturday for them to call me back with what tyres they had in stock to replace one with a bulge in). Complained to the service manager and he knocked it off and arranged for it to be delivered to me at work.

Must say that after 4 days with the new C class, you can really tell how much lighter they are now. My CLK feels like it’s made out of granite in comparison. Rides better though. The c220d in AMG Line was quite crashy compared to my AMG Sports suspension.

Just replaced all my interior bulbs with LED bulbs on the C63. It now looks all cold, harsh and emotionless, just how the Germans intended!

Although annoyingly the passenger side vanity mirror led wouldn’t work. Normal bulb was fine. Same issue with the tail lift lights, only one side would take LEDs. Anyone know why?

Got the jalopy MOTed, needed a Number plate bulb and a couple of other bits and bobs for a pass.

I decided a few months back that if/when the repairs where more than a grand in one go I’d chop it in and get something with a few less miles on it. The current car is a Volvo V50 with 169500 miles on the clock and it continues to have a hard life under my ownership (mostly because I don’t see it as a car I care about) but the old girl just refuses to give up. It’s cost me all of £270.00 in maintenence (including the MOT test) in the last 12 months. Might treat it to an oil service and belt change this month.

They need to be a specific way around, polarity.

Got My Dragon ball installed... ******* freezing ass of in Nottingham

Just replaced a wiper stalk on my Seat.

Had to remove steering wheel which also meant airbag........

This was my face when disconnecting it even after the battery had been disconnected for 2 hrs. Now I know how bomb disposal experts feel.

A Peugeot 206 nosed out between parked cars straight into the side of the wife’s mini. So having to sort that today, full liability admitted already which is good.

Gutted as we had it from new and kind of corrupted the car now even when fixed... I’m assuming new doors aswell.

Bought a new (to me) car, replacing the M5. Got it a couple of weeks ago, but haven't had the chance to take any decent pictures. That still hasn't changed, but I thought the weather was picture worthy.

There's a car under there somewhere.

Can you tell what it is yet?

Yeah - traded it in for the Elise. Possibly not the world's best deal once I'd inspected the paintwork upon getting home (and the amount of play in the throttle - fixed by tightening a bolt and nut on the throttle pedal...), but it is what it is. I had no interest in the M5 at decent money (>£10k) for 10 days on PH or ebay so took an easier way out.

Spend some hours over the last few days on my new wheels for the A4. Yes it was a bit of work, but they look great after.

Sit quite nice. This is a Sport, but seem pretty low to me. Springs are plain black, so dunno if they are lowering springs or what? Anyway. They certainly LOOK good.

Alas, not to be with these tyres though. Turns out 255 section tyres, on a 8.5J rim with an ET of 47 is a stretch too far for the old B6. Both front tyres were rubbing on the inside. 5mm spacers should do the trick.

Don't have any of them though. And not sure if I'll go down that route. It's winter tyres on there, so are needing changed soon anyway. So might just drop to a 235/35/19 tyre sooner rather than later. In the meantime, luckily I have a few other choices of rims to put on. I was sooooooo tempted to try out the CH's, but they have a pretty horrible offset for this car, and I suspected they would rub in near the same place. Shame as they have excellent tyres. No time to trial fit them just now, as kids duties though. That can wait.

But I do still have the Audi Ronals in the garage, so threw them on instead. No rubbing is good. But need spacer to sit better really.

So a day of ups and downs. That'll delay sticking the exhaust on a bit I think.

Fair enough - must have felt rather different driving the M5 to the dealer and then the Elise back home :p

Thankfully I'd brought earplugs as we'd agreed to meet in some services on the M6 just north of Birmingham (dealer was from Preston). It was actually surprisingly comfortable, despite the interference between my knee, the steering wheel and the gear knob. That's sorted now I've fitted a smaller steering wheel with a quick disconnect, bringing the wheel closer to me.

I did feel really bad when I got home - felt like I'd been robbed, but I think that was mainly due to the stress of an insomnia filled night before, then 7 hours of driving (on my birthday too!). The car was very cheap for an S1 Elise, but is a higher mileage one (~110k miles). Mechanically it's good, well maintained and has some choice upgrades, including the head gasket, ITG induction kit, lovely Elise Parts 4 into 1 manifold, short shifter, rear toe link (the stock ones have a tendency to snap on sticky rubber) and S2 Bilstein dampers. Now I've got the throttle sorted, and the better driving position, it's fantastic. Just needs to stop bloody snowing!
