What have you done to your car today?

What car is that on? I know when I was going to get both trailing arm bushes done on one of my cars I was quoted £200-250. It may be worth getting some quotes from other garages.

Mine was for an S-Max which shares the same platform as a Mondeo so wouldn't have thought it'd be much different. Definitely worth looking around and getting some other quotes.

Well my R8 has been with Tamworth Audi for 2 days for a full service + brake fluid change and some small items I needed checking. One of these was a faint whine I have mentioned previously I have had from the transmission. Well today I got the call...."Mr Housey, your R8......it's going to need a new gearbox". So of they go to Audi Warranty and there I sit waiting. The Man From Del Monte...he say yesssss!!

So brand new gearbox on order, big job, £20K of which I pay £100 excess.

Tried to fetch it got stuck on drive in loaner so given up and now drinking coffee.

The difference between Stoke Audi (TERRIBLE) and Tamworth Audi (GOOD) has been stark. Stoke simply have no idea what good service looks like, none. Tamworth do and get how precious us R8 types are so when they say they will do X at Y we expect them to do X at Y. Stoke just never got that or why I was angry at them for not doing anything they said they would do or taking 3 days to fix something Tamworth did in 1 hour. The whine has been there the 3 times it went into Stoke Audi...I asked them about it each time....nothing,

20k wow, i wonder how much it would be through an indy. great result though.

Well for a start the labour will be significant as it's back off car, exhaust off, etc. Audi also won't part replace, their policy on the R8 DCT is end to end transmission replacement. I know many independents will actually rebuild the box but I still think you are into mid teen K's still.

At least it's not....

OPERATION RAT!!!!

It's not just R8 owners - I get very annoyed when my local Audi dealer misses deadlines and doesn't inform me (which has been every time I've used them so far....) and I drive a 12 year old A6. There's absolutely no excuse for bad service from any main dealer, no matter what your car is.
Are you comparing Mexico customer service with the UK? :p

Genuinely can't say I've had worse service here than in the UK - in fact, in many cases I've been very impressed. All the "trades" however are just as inefficient as they are back home, but when you call them they are at least apologetic which makes a welcome change from the "na m8, had to clock off at 1 today innit".

Today..
Took my car to a garage to investigate a wheel bearing whine, only to find out its the rear diff:eek:
Anyone know of a bmw diff specialist in the west mids?

Got a quote for new diff fitted at £2200:mad:

What gearbox have you gone for? I have just had a AMK engine fitted in my golf with the MK4 GTi box but I think it's a bit short on the gearing due to smaller wheels on the mk2's

I fitted a 02a CDA box out of a mk3 with a 3.94FD fitted. So it'll cruise a bit nicer and still pull through the gears at 250ish bhp.

With 02j shifter, and tower for a better shift :)

I’d be inclined to get a known good one from someone like FAB Direct or Quarry Motors and get the garage who’ve diagnosed the failed one to fit it.

Should have some form of warranty so you’ll know you’ve got a good ‘un and be an awful lot less than £2200.
