What have you done to your car today?

The dealer won't really care, it's not like you can make him detail the car. They will just say that the marks are "normal" and "on all cars"

A friend of mine with a Vantage kicked up a massive fuss when an Aston dealer washed his (as it has been newly ceramic coated). Ended up having to contact Andy Palmer. They did pay for it to be detailed in the end though, at a detailer of his choice.

You can get something out of them, but it does take a lot of effort.

If I hadn't explicitly instructed them to not wash it then no, I wouldn't have a leg to stand on. But I did ask them. Twice. And left a note on the dashboard.

Edit: Actually I asked them three times! Once when booking it, again as a casual reminder when I dropped it off, and again when they phoned and said "the car's finished, but it's yet to be washed so it'll be ready in half an hour or so", and I said "no, please don't wash it" to which they replied "oh yes, I see that on the job sheet now, no problem".

Anyway, I'll see what the service manager says.

Probably offer a MOP with 3M Fast Cut...

Did a service and a cooling system refresh, as the BMW cooling systems of this era are known to be as resilient as a chocolate teapot at this sort of age.

So happily on my way following instructions from the E46 guides, until we get to the water pump. Some clever gent of an engineer decided to run webbing for the sheet metal front crossmember directly in front of the water pump location, making it impossible to get out as it is . Cue much cursing as I realised it had just become an engine lift job to get it to tilt over... Bloody car engineers

Water pump in a clear and easily accessible place at the front of an engine, oh just stick a part of the chassis in front eh, be reet...

Dropped it off with a local Merc specialist to look at this gearbox. Hopefully it's something relatively easy to repair.

Their hire car is a 2001 diesel C class estate... it's actually quite good fun to drive.

Today was the first day of sunshine - cleaned my 2001 Focus and changed spark plugs & Leads. Figured after 40k since I last changed them they could do with it.

They looked in spot on condition but car had developed bit of a misfire when you put foot down it would stutter. Now that has gone. :)
