What have you done to your car today?

Had cam belt and water pump done on Wednesday. Haven't really driven it much since but popped the bonnet a short while ago and noticed the coolant level in the expansion tank was below the min marker. Topped up with about half a litre and somehow the water level didn't seem to change much at all. Then took a look underneath the car to see a couple of small wet patches on the ground and a few drips on the undertray. Great.

Took it back to the garage today. I know they've been dealing with it for at least 2 and a half hours because they'd moved my car shortly after I dropped it off while I was still in the area. Anyway they just called me to say it's now sorted out and that the problem was to do with a rubber bung in the water pump, that the coolant was leaking out from there.

Does this sound right? Why would a water pump have a rubber bung on it?

Having looked at pics of the pump for my car, there isn't one. Perhaps they meant the gasket was knackered, or perhaps it was a cover up for something else like the pump bolts not being done up properly.

Dont worry about it, see how it goes in the next few days, if it still leaks take it back :)

Anyone can recommend a wheel refurb in West Midlands or near Cardiff, somewhere that can do all 4 wheels the same day.

Won't be same day but Lawtomotive in Stafford do returbs and IIRC he carries a range of spare wheels in to fit while yours are being done.

E: he's on holiday till next week though, I know @Scania has used him for detailing and I think Ben did his wheels too

No rush, will see how far they are first.

Brake pads replaced, free under warranty, it seems the squeaking has now gone. Result.

“It looks worn, someone must have been driven it hard”

...I don’t drive it that hard! Lol

Unintentional fuel tank roulette

130 miles on a quarter tank it seems. I could have sworn I filled up yesterday but guess I forgot and only just realised when the fuel light came on after hitting the Hindhead tunnel which also meant no dropping gears for tunnel hoons :(

Made it back the usual Portsmouth Shell for V Power

I played that today, but i lost about 10 metres from the petrol station entrance, luckily I could get off the bike and push it to the pump. :o

Also did some swearing at the part in the yellow circle.
Taking this picture has maybe highlighted a potential problem in the red circle.

Will have to investigate in the morning.

Noticed something not quite right.

Hose looks a bit close to the anti roll bar.

Definitely some rubbing.

Hose has seen better days, glad I found it ad it's been like that a while.

Hose bracket needed bending slightly to change the angle of the hose mounting.

If it wasn't for the dust and crap that gets everywhere then I might not have noticed the clean patch on the anti roll bar.

One gripe I had with my MX5 was the next to useless fuel gauge. It would reach the empty mark, 100 miles later it would be about 4MM below the empty mark, then when I filled up it would still have 5 litres+ in the tank. No fuel light either. :p

At least you know where you are in that M3 to some degree! :p

first half of the tank I can do 260-280km rest goes down fast to E.

max I got was 380km out of the tank with 4ltrs left. Was on E.
