What have you done to your car today?

Checked for any damage/signs of forced entry to my car.

Why you might ask?

Roughly 2:30am my daughter woke us for a bottle, as me and my partner started to drift back off we heard noises coming from downstairs so she checked the Ring Doorbell which is where it got interesting!

1) BMW slowly driven up our road at 2:17am

2) 02:51am - 1 male stood across from our house

She mentioned there is someone outside of our house, which is where my heart sank and I thought it really is happening.. I looked out front and as he clocked eyes on me he ran back towards my property... 4 men on the latter stages of destroying our PVC door locks to gain access, no doubt for the car keys? (Which are upstairs with me) I dread to think what would have happened if our daughter didn't wake us.

Time to step up the security... Not a nice experience at all.

I always worry about this. I always hope our CCTV on every corner of the house and alarm system would be a deterrent, but you never know.

Geez scary stuff that.

unfortunatley you can only make your house/car look harder to access than a neighbours, sorry to say but if next door looks easier to break in chances are they will unless they are after your particular vehicle.as i always said when fitting vehicle alarms its deflection tactics...make yours look harder and hope they take the hint:(

Don’t keep your keys upstairs for goodness sake.
Exactly the weakest point in my house is the conservatory monies wallet car keys are always there in the kitchen next to it..
Then they would have to smash a door down to gain into the living room and then upstairs

If they go that far they want something more.

Tooled up waiting for them.

It pains me to say but the keys are now downstairs.

Horrible experience which will never leave me, we are quite un-easy when it comes to sleeping with the concern of another attempt occurring.

They were in a stolen BMW 420i which was taken the same night they attempted our house.

Must be for car keys! CCTV caught them a few houses up walking as a 4 at 2:47 but pausing when they noticed his BMW 440i however they carried on walking towards our house where our Ring Camera captured 1 guy at 2:51 keeping an eye out for us curtain twitching whilst they attempted to break in via our back door.

Not sure how much of a deterrent CCTV is these days since they are all covered up with only eyes showing.

Edit: But suppose it shows them you are potentially quite prepared due to going to effort of having CCTV - Also useful for seeing what’s going on remotely if you are hearing anything.

Must be horrible trying to sleep at night after something like that has happened. It is just something you do not get in the countryside. I have left my garage door open at night plenty of times and still my car and tools are still there in the morning. I should really be more careful. I think if I ever did move closer to a city I would get done big time due to naivety.

It’s only a car. No matter how special you may feel it is.

Our house has Ring Spotlights all around it as well as the ring doorbell. Lights are linked so if one triggers the others by it turn on.

Several other neighbours have done similar, and now sadly some houses do “stand out” as having less security.

Sadly two of these were broken into (their garages) a year ago just after Christmas.

Since then they too put extra deterrents up and now the area doesn’t seem to have any issues.

I think if they got in and both keys were sitting there they would have had both cars. Second car is higher value than the GTI but less desirable for these type of vermin.

Going to look into something like that really, mainly to be able to see what is going on at our back door.

Had the locks replaced with 3 Star TS007 rated ones to make it less susceptible to the lock snapping technique they had used.

To add salt into the wounds my partner and family want me to get rid of the car for something less appealing to these type of people :o

Some minor tweaks to the Mini and Civic. The Civic for Osram Night Breakers and Osram 4000K LED sidelights. I wanted the colour to match the main lights, halogens were too yellow. Was quite pleased to find 'warm' LEDs instead of ones that are almost blue.
Mini got Osram 6000K LED sidelights and silver coated indicator bulbs so I can ditch the 'fried egg' look. Next up are some Night Breakers for the Mini as the current HID bulbs are mismatched and the colour temperature difference bugs me.

I really need to give that car a clean again!

Booked a trailer to take it away.

Friday 13th decided to bite me in the backside for the first time ever. The MOT was booked for Friday 13th, so I got in the car first thing in the morning to check all the lights worked before driving it over for the MOT. Immediate issue was a brake light bulb out, but sorted that easy enough (bulb was fine the day before). Then got in the car to drive away and pressed the brake pedal to test the brakes just before I get out on the road... this doesn't feel right and why is my foot slowly sinking to the floor. Park the car outside the house again, jack the back of the car up. Offside rear steel brake line has decided to give up overnight and brake fluid has been leaking since I parked it the evening before. Phoned up and cancelled the MOT.

No issues the day before, brakes felt solid as ever. So, I'm now car-less and I have work tomorrow which is 30 miles away. MOT officially runs out on 21st January, unlikely that the car will be fixed and MOTd by then. On the bright side I've decided its time to bite the bullet and get a few other jobs done on the car along with the brake lines. Thermostat, glow plugs and glow plug module are long overdue, investigating a couple of other niggly issues and brake fluid needed changing anyway. The other bright side is I could've been driving the thing when the brake line let go, but it held out long enough to give up while the car was parked overnight.
