What have you done to your car today?

researched buying some new sockets ... maybe 12 point sockets are not as bad as I thought (non impact work) if, as this suggests, failure point is more likely to be bolts threaded 'body'

All very well when things are perfect condition. In reality, heads are rusty / hard to access, then the 12 points (if not surface drive) just round the bloody corners off the nut / bolt.
Are a set useful in certain situations.... absolutely but not as your go to set!!

I had gone for facom 6pts, after seeing that a cheap (unknown origin inherited) 12pt was going to round off head on a bmw suspension bolt (in very good nick, wire brushed),
but, after seeing that video thought I had made a mistake;
I have only ever bought 12&6pt facoms myself.
I am always suspicious of halfords pro sets, a lifetime time guarantee is meaningless if it is poor quality/fit/steel and nacks the bolt head.

e: after thought - maybe bolts in cars with strong structural requirement can't be brittle, so maybe they are naturally a softer steel making rounding easier,
wheel bolts are a case in point, mine are a bit rounded, but maybe I shouldn't use the cheap BMW iron to crack them.

No other dealer nearby with time?

What is it with dealers and lack of time? When I booked by Audi in for a service, only 1 dealer within a 30-mile range (of which there are about 10) had time within 6 weeks!
A Jaguar indie specialist in Charlton has taken it in. Diagnostics yesterday were inconclusive as to whether it is plug, coil or injector. Scheduled to be properly investigated on 13th April. Until then they have lent me a 2003 XJ6 which is a slightly different ride!

Swapped out the OEM front door speakers for a pair of Phoenix gold speakers in my GT86, took me roughly 2 hours to swap them both out since it was my first attempt in removing the door cards.
They are similar to the Focal speakers which are plug and play, the tweeters require a custom adapter though which i've just ordered a pair so I can install the tweeters on another sunny day.

Brake fluid change at BMW.
£112, bit of a jump from 2 years ago when it was £75

Still got to browse the current stock, 3 very nice coffee's & a fresh croissant :D

I have a few things to do to the car, but is everyone else just waiting for a few days where it doesn't ******* pee it down?

I always have that problem :( need to build a covered area to work on mine. Without fail if I want to do something on one of my cars it will be heavy rain or freezing cold on my days off.

We sold our Renault Megane. Had it 15 years. Got a grand for it, however I put in at least 650 to get it to through MOT and into a saleable condition.
Happy to get the space back.
My Mazda 3 MPS is up for sale, a potential buyer viewing it after its Mot on the 3rd. Then I'll be carless.... Until I can get into a 440i :D

Got a digital tyre pump recently, battery powered. Actually works really well and seems to pump up a car tyre by 1-2psi in seconds so perfect for regular checks. It's also very accurate having now checked it against the new air pumps at the local Shell garage.

It's this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BF3VWBLP?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

With this press on adapter attached as I hate the screw in schrader plugs: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09TW4V7PZ?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

Been using it on my bike tyres too with the included Presta press-on adapter.

New wiper blades all round. In 9 years of car ownership I don't think I've ever had new ones - previous car never seemed to have wiper issues.

Latest car which has quite a knackered windscreen - it's made such a vast difference! One wipe and the entire thing is perfectly clear. For £30 I'll be putting that in the annual service routine.

It's one of those you don't notice how crap they've gotten until you put new ones on thing. Unless they're complete scrap and squealing.

built/carved some adapters, using high density packing foam, in a similar situation for 3 series, which held much smaller hertz tweeter in existing enclosure.

I had the wheels refurbished. They were done a year ago, but the place who did them last year didn't do the best job and a few weeks ago, a large nodule on the very edge of the rim came off when pressure washing (like they had left the wheel on a flat surface whilst the paint was still wet). So decided it was time to get them re-done.

Had them covered in Gtechniq C5 too, and gave the car a wash today.

Did a fair bit of maintenance on the MX5 today:

Changed the diff oil

Greased up the rear arb polybushes

Changed transmission oil

Did some repairs to the heat shield around the cat (which consisted of sticking strips of aluminium foil tape over the foil that had started to wither away)

Greased up the front arb polybushes

Changed the engine oil

Hopefully she's all set for a trip to the Ring in 3 weeks.

Replaced my random cheap brand battery with a Bosch S5008. Hurt my back in the process, yay.

Also swapped out the very warn xenon bulbs with some Philips White Vision, they're much better! I'll get a picture of the old ones, they certainly had it. Just need to polish up the lenses now.

Shout out to Volvo having the the BEST headlamp replacement process. Two tabs and the whole unit pops out.

Mazda 3 MPS went in for its MOT.
Need's new rear pads and rear springs are corroding.
So.. New rear pads on, and I'll get the springs off, shot blasted and power coated.
