Really boring this one

A few years ago I updated the plug and socket on trailer and tow bar. The old one was plastic so bought a nice shiny aluminium set.

For some reason I couldn't get the plug all way into socket and after a few tries gave up and didn't use trailer much.
So thought it's time so got new plug/socket and changed plug over -didn't go in so changed them all in different orders and still couldn't get it to fit tight. 2 Days so far.
Sitting there looking at old aluminium set I saw the male pins had a cross in them so got long nose pliers out and squashed then all together.. Job done except I had to put the old set back on.

Took me two days to do a 5 minute job. I am not sure if old age and can't see close up had anything to do with it.

My 1995 Toyota Celica hasn't been re-gassed since I have owned it (2012) and still blows extremely cold to the point it is the coldest aircon I have. "They don't make them like they used too"

Just had my Saab and Suzuki re-gassed however as they last about 1-2 years before needing doing.

The gases used in cars changed in resulting in poorer cooling effect. Still gives cold but not fridge cold. Gases are far less harmful to the o-zone now afaik.

Clearing out some boxes and came across the endoscope I forgot I bought for my phone a few years ago so finally managed to find and extract the piece of (unused) gum I managed to drop down the side of the seat and has been rattling around under the carpet for weeks :p

Afternoon,

Today I narrowed a coolant leak down on my MX5 to these two pipes. I believe someone has tried bodge it previously given the standard of jubilee clips. Now it only leaks when under load, Ive put two arrows on the pipes because I’m not 100% sure where they go. I believe some folks on here have experience with the MX5.

Mine is a MK2 1.8. The pipe with the yellow arrow I believe goes from the throttle body to thermostat so haven’t got the full picture but the other with the red arrow I have no clue. Thermostat to where?

The pipe pointed at by the red arrow goes to the waterpump inlet, the 90°
bend on them almost always fails at some point in it's life

Cheers for that

Dropped mine off for the long awaited insurance repairs, drove home in a brand new 900 miles on the clock automatic Toyota Aygo X.

What a horrible little car, actually that's slightly unfair. What a ****ing horrendous ”gearbox" who in their right mind would spend their own money on a CVT equipped car, I was embarrassed trying to actually get it up to any sort of speed with all the noise it makes.

Had to fit a new battery, currently recovering from surgery though so cant lift at all and the 110 battery I need must weigh like 20kg just by itself got my father to help but its all done now and the BMS reset. replaced the Platinum battery that was in there with an exide, would have prefered a Yuasa but they were out of stock locally to me.

Had a “spirited” drive home from work and noticed a knock when I let off the loud pedal suddenly in hard acceleration. Only happened a couple of times.
Am I right in saying I should check torque mounts?

Had my front windscreen changed finally!

£1100 approx total cost though which is a bit eye opening
£672 for the actual OEM screen (trade price)
£4 for the OEM rubber shims
£120 petrol to go collect the screen from the supplier as they said no courier could be trusted to deliver with no damage so had to make a 330 mile round trip...
£300 for 2 qualified fitters to come do the job

Autoglass wanted £2500 for the windscreen via Renault + 4 hours to do the job (2 hours to fit plus 2 hours to recalibrate the ADAS sensors in the screen....)!

My 2 experienced technicians took 15 mins to remove the old damaged screen then only 20 mins or so to fit the new one! no need to recalibrate the ADAS sensors as OEM 1:1 like for like replacement :D

When this happened to my Golf GTD - Like most I want things to be right and looked into the OEM Route but as above the costs are just eye watering for what it is.

I took the £115 Excess route…

Happy I did as the Windscreen was, well a windscreen and all the sensors worked as they did before.

Auto Lights, Wipers, Adaptive Cruise, Emergency Braking etc.

The thing is no way am I ever letting them have my car for 4 hours & that includes 2 hours to drive on their own & recalibrate the sensors....that just ain't ever going to happen.....most insurance companies will ONLY pay for the cheap made in china glass autoglass want to lumber you with! When like I insisted on OEM the price was £2500 LOL for a trade price £672 windscreen (which I had to go collect myself!).

I could have even replaced the screen myself its quite easy to do but happy to let the pros do it instead and 2 of them meant it took way less time & they did a more thorough job as double checking each others work at every stage!

The glass on mine is apparently a special low acoustic noise variant

Agreed it’s nice to have OEM - In my situation it just wasn’t worth the cost and if someone etched a fake VW badge on the glass I ended up with, I would have never known :D

Fair play going to the lengths you have to ensure the replacement is like rolling off the production line.

Major downside to having such car is if anyone else gets to drive it they are 100% going to drive it like a rental.

That's exactly why I refuse to let anyone else drive it! I now do most things myself apart from main dealer oil services every 6 months or so...never selling the car so not bothered about resale values either! but will keep it OEM all over as most of the OEM spares are good quality!

You do realise that your "so called" cheap made in China glass that Auotglass, Auto windscreens etc all fit comes from exactly the same production lines as OEM glass

Through my own poor planning I've somehow managed to run out of the pre-mixed 50/50 water/meth mix I buy from Devilsown, so I had to spend 30+ mins trying to remember how to activate my cars "back-up" map which is mapped for using just 99RON fuel (no water/meth) which drops my power down to just a lowly 910hp :D

Anyway, 50L of water/meth ordered which should last me til next year.
