What have you done to your car today?

You do realise that your "so called" cheap made in China glass that Auotglass, Auto windscreens etc all fit comes from exactly the same production lines as OEM glass
Well mine says made in Palencia , Spain which is the main Megane production hub & as its OEM includes all the ADAS camera mounts so does not require a recalibration.

After finally getting my car back 10 weeks after I dropped in in to Toyota for what should have been a couple of hours work, I finally got it back on Friday :/ Which meant I could immediately set about tinkering:

- The boot lid doesn't have a handle on the inside, meaning it's a bit of a pain to close. An enterprising member of the owner's club found a suitable strap which could be bolted to one of the trim mounting holes. No more dirty hands / risk of scratched paint from having to grab the spoiler :)
- New exhaust. HKS L-Spec II. Full cat back system. Very happy with it so far; it's one of the the quieter systems available, but still louder than stock, which suits me. Gives a nice, deep tone and I get more feedback noise from the engine without obnoxiously bothering anyone else. It was an expensive system, but when you hold it you can see where the money went; beautifully made, and exceptionally light - even with the in-built Hemholtz resonator, I think it weighs in at about half what the stock catback weighs.
- Parking sensors now fitted FOC by Toyota. Wasn't initially going to bother, but they don't look out of place, and work pretty well. Had I known that taking the car in to have them fitted would lead to it getting pranged and me being without it for 2.5 months, I probably wouldn't have bothered, but still...
- On the plus side, as a result of them having to repaint the front bumper, the rather large stone chip I'd already collected near the grille has been taken care of. Every cloud!

I did knock up a recording of the exhaust, taken from the interior while driving around - but the only thing I had to record from was an old GoPro Hero4 Session action cam thing, wedged into the front passenger headrest. I stuck it on Youtube to share with other owners, but it doesn't really do it justice. Barely picks up anyhitng over wind/tyre noise. So just make do with a photo which manages to encapsulate all the changes above :p

Which means nothing. It isn't Renault than manufacture the glass. Made in china isn't quite that literal

Non OEM glass also includes mounts for ADAS and any other features. People aren't standing there hacking them off the old one and gluing them to a shoddy quality new piece of glass

ADAS should always be recalibrated, irrespective of who fits it and what glass is fitted. There's manufacturing tolerances regardless of who makes a piece of glass and then there the human element which will affect things like bond height, how much the glass is bedded into the bond, all of which will affect the center angle ADAS is viewing the road at

Quite a bit of work done on the new (to me) C30 this week.

Fitted a rear wiper back on (previous owner removed it). The car also had a very loud single silencer exhaust on it which sounded fantastic when on the loud pedal but droned a lot on the motorway. I got a Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonator welded in, along with some new 4" slash tips which IMO look a lot nicer than the 4" circular tips it had fitted before. Quick snap from the office car park. It still sounds great when on the loud pedal and 80% of the drone is gone when cruising on the motorway, so I'm happy.

Took the car to Volvo for a health check and I got a good look under the car myself with some of the techs, very clean and tidy underneath with only controls arm bushes needing replacing. Got some new control arms fitted, job done.

Also fixed the air con yesterday, the compressor clutch fails to engage when the car gets hot, Volvo just charge £600 and replace the compressor when it's only the clutch gap on the compressor that needs shimming. Few cable ties puts the gap within spec and all working again.

Only the vibration to sort next. I felt the vibration through the whole cabin when on boost during the test drive and knew that it needed new driveshafts. The car had some fitted last year but they were cheap and these cars are fussy, nothing short of the gen Volvo ones at £1200 for the pair will last longer than a few months, so I haggled that cost off the car when buying. I had some gen Volvo ones lying in my shed from my old S40 T5 (they're the same P/N) and fitted those, problem solved. Nice and smooth on boost now :)

Treated it to a wash and a blast around the new forest!

The daily hack Kia decided after four days parked at an airport to have rear brake trouble. Lots of singing as soon as they got slightly warm. Jacked it up this morning, whipped the nearside rear wheel off. Plenty of meat left on the pads, disc fine but looking a little heat-checked. Decided to spray brake cleaner all over the shop and beat on the caliper and parking brake mechanism with a hammer to shake everything back loose. Brakes now fine.

Gave the i3S to my detailing guy hoping it'd be a quick job.
He called me to say the paint (plastic?) is complete ****** and it'll need a deep polish before he can do anything. There's another few hundred quid I wasn't planning on spending

The dealer claimed the previous owner was a detail freak (it looked mint) so maybe the monkeys used the oldest, most abrasive sponge filled with stones they could find when they prepared it for pickup...

Got a working AC again after replacing the leaky AC condenser for my GT86, only cost me £300(part,labour, de-gassing the old one and re-gas the new one) in total vs nearly £2k quoted price from Toyota.

Called for an update this morning after dropping my car off to have some crash damage fixed a week ago. They've got as far as stripping to down and finding that they needed a lot more bits than they thought :o

Surely the whole process of just sending off a couple of pictures through the insurers portal and them basing costings and time to fix based on that wastes so much more time than just getting a human out to spend 15 minutes actually looking at it in person.

Pulled out my sync2 from the mondeo estate and installed add on android auto daughter board in all respects, allows me to switch between the stock sync2 functions etc but will then allow me to access android auto or apple carplay. would love to upgarde to sync 3 for the better screen but can justify the £650 cost of it when I now have the same features basically for £200.

There's a few software settings on my car that I wanted to change - really simple things, which for some reason, Toyota decided would need to be dealer-only settings:
- Turning off the fake sound generator.
- Setting both doors to unlock when only the driver's door handle was touched.
- Setting the windows so they can be controlled remotely with the fob.

I had asked my dealer to change these while the car was in for it's parking sensors - but despite ending up having the car for the best part of 3 months, due to reasons, they still didn't manage to enable any of these functions for me :/
I really can't face going back there and being without the car again, so I thought, sod it, and got hold of a copy of Techstream with a USB OBD2 dongle for £40. Set it all up on a laptop and changed the settings myself.

There's a few other settings which I might tinker with, and I figure it may come in handy for diagnostics in the coming years, so a price worth paying to avoid having to go back to the dealer so they can keep the car for a day and then say "sorry sir, couldn't find those settings, lol".

Had a bit of a nightmare trying to wash the Qashqai today - been getting this horrible dust film building up on the cars for 2-3 weeks now, hardly worth cleaning them it comes back so quickly. Pressure washing, Snow Foam, Armour All, resorted to hand washing with a sponge whatever I did as soon as it dried out a smeared around film of dust appeared. Only thing which would touch it was Showroom Shine but I was nearly out of that so had to use it sparingly so far from a ideal result. For want of a better way to put it was like anything water based wasn't "debonding" it from the surface even going over it 3 times with the pressure washer.

I know what you mean. It's been dusty recently for sure.
I drive up a short track to my house which doesn't help as it's been so dry, extra dusty!

Sounds useful, could do with changing that locking function on ours. Can you link me up with the hardware etc you got?

Sure!

Purchased from here:

He provides the cable and the required software on CD (although if you message him on purchase, he will send download links in case you don't have a CD drive). Software consists of the Techstream software, and if you're using it on a 64bit OS, you'll also need a third party 64bit driver for the cable (also provided). He provides full instructions of how to set up the software. Message him again after installation and provide the software ID, he will reply with an activation code.

After that it was just a case of plugging the cable in to the OBD2 port and opening Techstream - it's not the most user friendly peace of software, but if you vaguely IT competent, it shouldn't be too difficult to work out.

All went very smoothly, and the seller is on hand if you have any queries.

When I've had go like that in the past you can just brush any residual dust off with a microfibre cloth when it has dried, this stuff was almost adhering on after getting wet.

Bit of a losing battle though there is already a light film of new dust by this afternoon :(
