What have you done to your car today?

Comforting to have had the head gasket too.

won't you do that on insurance ? - had a stone break headlight outer, heard the hit&stopped but failed to identify the crack at that time, was looking for something much bigger

e:

try some self-amalgamating tape, have used that in the past on a ball joint seal, and on air box tubing, after a clinical clean-up w/alcohol

Yeah insurance is covering it. I knew it would be a claim before I even got the quote to fix it, having already seen what the cost was from last month when I smashed the other side :(

Insurance is going to quickly become very expensive (even more than standard these days) with another £4k bill after just paying out nearly £12k surely

Suspect that is the issue with everybody's insurance as companies are paying out bigger and bigger claims for things like these. 20 years ago, even in todays money, both this repairs would have cost about £1k to £2k max.

Stuck the V60 into the Volvo specialist yesterday for a minor service and check over.

All good apart from cords slightly showing on the very inside of the front tyres! The tread has 4mm and planned to replace in the next month or so but the very insides are ******. So It's booked in for 4x Michelin PS4 and wheel alignment tomorrow.

Nice new tyres, valves and balanced nicely this time. £650 lighter.

However, I need to get it aligned again. Doesn't pull and feels fine but the steering wheel is on the **** very slightly... FFS. There's always something.

2 new rear tyres, £300 I was trying not to spend before Japan in October !

Conversation at work recently, very few people I work with, even those who can easily afford it, pay straight up for tyres any more - most put them on 3 months interest free and/or PayPal pay in 3 offers.

Same here, I had the cash but if they're going to give me 12 months 0% then I'll take it.

Personally, I don't want monthly payments looming over my head. If I can buy it now then I like to get it out of the way.

I guess 0% and paying up can make sense, I just don't like looming things as @kona786 states.

Technically I did have the money, but was budgeting for November. The puncture I've been fighting since Monday (didn't see point in repairing one I was soon to replace) and this kinda breaks up the expense of MOT and Service in November... so I guess thats the silver lining!

I did it once on Paypal for an intercooler for my Saab. Pay in 3 was £100 a month. Never again. I kept putting money in my savings at the end of the month then forgetting about the pay in 3 and having to put money back in to stop going overdrawn as I keep very little in my current account.

Generally people who manage their money effectively will always chose this, as it just makes logical sense. Why pay £300 when you can pay £100 now? It makes no sense unless you factor in poor money discipline.

Yeah people manage their finances in different ways.

I had a shiny new Milltek exhaust fitted today as I haven't grown up yet. My reasoning was that it was preemptive before my original exhaust inevitably rusts through. I was worried it might be too loud or drone too much on the motorway but I'm pretty pleased with how it sounds. It's not much different to stock when trundling around and there isn't any drone, however when I boot it, it has a nice note to it.

Love the exhaust, but Man, get something on that grey trim. STAT!

Haha, the lighting makes it look worse than it is, however I also haven't given it a proper clean in a while. I've got some trim gel in the garage so I'll stick some on.

Clio failed the MOT on front brakes and advised discs wearing low. In true organised fashion the MOT expired 2 days later. Off to eurocarparts we go. Unclear as to which braking system mine had of two, I had to do the classic order both initially and see. £300 later...
I then decide I'd had enough of the old trusty Halfords 2 tonne trolley jack struggling to be low enough profile to lift my cars and generally feeling like it struggles and is not stable enough, so as per advice on here I splashed out on an SGS 2.5 tonne low profile beast.

The jack turned up next day delivered but the packaging was battered. It looks like it has been sat in a warehouse for time. Certificate inside labelled 2017 as well. Hmm. Couple of bits of paint scuffed on the top but doesn't look like it has ever been used. Since I needed it right now, I thought **** it, and proceeded to use it straight away. Yeah...it's a beast. Website says 90mm minimum closed height, but it's actually 80mm. Weighs about 30kg apparently. I can lift and carry to the car fine but it is a beast. Nice bit of kit. Much more confidence lifting cars now.

Changed the discs and pads and whacked her through a retest. All good.

Started to clear the car out as it's due a new front wing (Rot) on Monday - I cannot remember the last time or any time I am going to be without a car for 5 days. The wife has panicked -Bought enough food for 5 months I think.
I bet it will do another 10mph with crap I have took out of it.
Just need to wash it now and get another 10mph

Looks much better now! I also blitzed the inside, it's a wonder my dog isn't bald with the amount of hair I managed to get out, I didn't even think it was that bad. The joys of having him come to work with me every day.
