What have you done to your car today?

Dropped it off for new springs, top mounts, service and MOT. Fingers crossed there is nothing else broken!

Got a 2.0L Petrol Manual C30 for the day, after a quick 15min drive to work in it, I am convinced I am over manual as a daily and when it is time to replace my C30, I won't be going down a trim/engine level. Just not as fun or refined as mine.

Got a new tyre :( only on for about 6k miles and has a nail in. I wouldn't have minded so much if it were one of the other 3 as they've not been replaced in a couple of years or so but this is the 3rd time the nearside rear has been replaced for having a nail in since we got it . Run flats mean it can't be repaired so that's another nearly £300 gone.

Is your car on original dampers?
I would have got those changed at the same time.

Yeah it really makes no sense to change springs and top mounts but not the dampers.
The dampers usually lose their performance long before the other two components, but will still appear visually good enough to pass an MOT.

After finding a screw in the tyre of the Model Y on the weekend, I had to wait until today to get it sorted as its leased, they have to 'approve' it (fully maintained).. I imagined they'd repair it (perfectly in the middle of the tread) and sure enough they did.

I was chuckling while waiting, the Tesla app was going mad with sentry alerts, tyre deflation notification etc.. at least I could tell they were working on it!

Wish I could straight pipe my pickup, granted most engines sound better with muffling, etc. removed. Not my video but not bad sound for a V6 diesel with a modified exhaust https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ms99Q7GyCGI

I really like the deeper sound over the raspier one a lot of people seem to go for.

Yeah they do another system called Atak but its way too raspy. Guess some people like that sound, its not for me though.

Just read he paid 600quid for oem springs. Oh lord.

Its a great system, I've used it numerous times on my motorbikes and never had one fail. It comes out top in this shootout.

A lot of these plugs will have something in the datasheet rated like 600 miles @ 40MPH with the endurance decreasing with speed. Though people often say they've done 10s of thousands of miles on rope plugs, etc. I keep a set of the rope plugs in my vehicles though I've previously just called out the RAC when I got a puncture.

Ordered a replacement boot lock (seized solid) and rear wiper motor (also seized solid)

Not things I'd normally bother about but they are both MOT failures here, even though the boot has a remote release.

Had some rust spots on my tips from stone chips in recent whack weather, so rubbed them with Autosol, good as new again...

the other knuckle with the new bearing is on, gearbox oil is filled, cooling system is bled, no leaks so far. New ignition leads as well.

Now just need to do the engine oil, considering running some LiquiMoly flush in the old oil for a few minutes before draining, put the front back on, put it on the ground and tighten and peen the axle nut, and she should be good to go, knock on wood.

Time for a little more Citroen C1 love before its MOT on Friday -

Front pads & discs + all the various bolts for the caliper/disc
Rear drums, shoes, springs, bolts and, as both were a little sticky on release, both brake cylinders too.
Brake fluid change due to the rear cylinder replacement.
OSRAM nightbreaker headlights fitted for the MOT. The H4 LED's I have are still way better though and, being designed for reflector headlights, will be going back in post MOT.

All for under £150, so about 1/2 the price of just the front pads on the RS6 :(

I noticed a slight exhaust leak at the manifold gasket (the manifold and Cat are all one piece) whilst I had the C1 up on the ramps so I'll need to get that sorted in the near future too, hopefully the manifold studs don't shear which is common on these

The wife's car, A1 2ltr tdi, had been throwing up the management light. Plugged it in and glow plug on cylinder 2 looks shot, plus an issue with throttle sensor.

New glow plug order but having had a look around the sensors including a very awkward one on the throttle pedal nothing looked unusual. A quick Google pointed me to check the throttle body for a build up of crap which it had a plenty.

Much better now

Exciting times, ran some engine flush through it, made an enormous mess everywhere when I drained the oil afterwards, and put in fresh oil.
Used a filter I had left over from my Toyota ownership, same thread, O ring size, and design, but about 20% bigger. Win!

Perhaps I will actually drive it tomorrow...
