What have you done to your car today?

Been a busy week for me, purchased a 1998 Mercedes S210 E300TD with OM606. Usual rotten front wings so 2 of those ordered, 1 of which is Genuine Mercedes New Old stock.

All wheel bolts were seized and snapped when undone, so removed the hubs and brake assembly whole and drilled the bolts out from behind (easier than trying to do it on the vehicle) and replaced the tyres, hubs, brake disks and pads and put proper wheel bolts on not the stupid merc stock ones.

Fuel system was sucking in air so tried to replace the prefilter and fuel system o-rings to no avail, so bypassed the fuel heater and prefilter and fed the fuel direct to the shutoff valve until my Shutoff valve delete kit arrives.

Serviced the gearbox and refilled with new transmission fluid and ordered new oil and filter for engine service. Replaced fuel and air filters.

Topped up Hydraulic fluid which was below minimum and creating some weird rear end suspension behaviour!

Repaired both faulty door mirrors.

Replaced the central locking compressor

Replaced both side repeaters

Replaced blown dash bulbs.

Regassed aircon but still blowing hot so ordered a duovalve service kit

Replaced both rear window regulators and fixed all the broken door clips

Replaced Aux belt and tensioner pulley plus damper

Buffed all headlights and refitted the headlamp washers which were loose

Ordered paint for new wings

Took for a CT check (French MOT) and passed (Underside is solid and very well undercoated thankfully)

Replaced the Ancient Pioneer CD Headunit with a DAB and Bluetooth Pioneer Headunit which integrates nicely with my phone and iPod

Did a 300km round trip to pickup a secondhand 8 month old faulty Samsung American Style Fridge Freezer which fit in the back perfectly and the car performed faultlessly

Spent in total around 2500 euros including the car and been offered 4000 for it as it stands without the wings, never realised they were so desirable other than for an engine swap donor haha

Still to do

Paint and Fit front wings

Service the Duovalve

Replace Rear Brake discs and pads (parts here but one more set of wheel bolts to deal with, Left Rear)

Service the Fuel Injectors (those will no doubt be a bundle of laughs to get out) as it is nailing a bit at idle

Replace the Coolant, Engine Oil and Filter.

Fitted front and rear dash cams to the Outlander. Surprisingly easy to feed wires through, very impressed with how everything fits together.

Booked in for service next week at a garage that was recommended and is a Mitsubishi authorised garage.

This weekend I replaced all the coilovers on the S2000 with Ohlins DFVs. Took me a day due to some seized bolts.
I've decided I'm getting too old for this **** now. I feel like I've been in a fight and lost. Legs and arms are aching like crazy.

Well my A6 3.BiTdi had a coolant leak in thee middle of the "V". Wasn't sure exactly from where as there are loads of different gaskets and parts in there. Pig of a job to get the manifold off (which is covered in oil EGR residue).

Found the coolant flange (plastic) was not looking good and a small piece broke off (not sure that would be the leak source) but the gasket where it mated to the engine was rusted and I suspect that is the location.

There was also clearly an oil leak that had been there for some time. Cleaning it out used a whole blue roll and was a horrible job. Parts are on order to put it all back together!

I hate the way manufacturers put stuff in the middle of the V these days. One example that's a right pig is the coolant transfer pipe on the 4.2 supercharged AJV8. Same on the BMW N62.

Yes, it's hours and hours to get to it all.

I presume it's to make the design compact, but it's an engine usually sat in big cars, so surely they can put an oil cooler somewhere else!

New plates installed:

The new boot protector going in, with the reason it is needed:

Had a clonk coming from the front near side suspension on my 2007 FN2, I suspected it was droplinks, so purchased a pair of Meyle Heavy Duty items from eBay, and swapped them over after work today. Went for a quick drive and all quiet again (well the clonk's gone anyway). A nice easy £38 fix :D

Out of interest, why go with GB on new plates rather than UK? If you were to drive to the EU, you'd still need to put a UK sticker on because the GB isn't valid anymore is it?

(Or if you won't drive abroad, why not just get plain plates? :p)
So, um, yeah... guess who mis-read the rules.... :D

I figured it out shortly after ordering them, but decided to stick with them anyway!

I could argue they are period correct for the car, perhaps?

Not having much fun trying to find someone who'll do ideally mobile wheel refurbishment around my area - some I just don't want to chance it on due to mixed reviews or dubious payment processes, several just haven't got back to me at all or said they are too busy or not doing it at the moment. Couple of ones which seem good are quoting prices which don't really save me much over just buying a new set.

I initially looked for mobile wheel refurbishers but none looked great around me either and really needs to be done in a shop ideally for a proper job so decided on doing it that way instead as I needed a full refurbishment on all 4. If you just need touch ups then they are probably fine.

If you were close the Swansea area I'd recommend The Wheel Specialist as they did mine and 3 months on they still look brand new. My wheels were in a really bad state with a poor air seal on one tyre, 13yrs of small chips, scratches and the lacquer was starting to bubble. They had my car for two days and the wheels came back looking like new. At my request for a little extra they changed the nuts and center cap as well though I had to buy my own new locking nut elsewhere. Without any extras I think it would have been around £95 a wheel and considering how much work it takes to strip, repair and repaint is pretty decent.
