What have you done to your car today?

I think a lot of the "hatred" is more bemusement. It's a couple of posters who seem to be absolutely 100 percent obsessed with rovers. I'm sure they're ok, probably quite easy to work on and a few might be quite fun.

But they were never a special brand, they didn't make incredible cars, they were just fairly average if poorly built cars. Take the tuning out of the equation for now, but I'd find a 2.0 petrol rover hatchback much more of a yawnfest than a 2.0 focus.

I'm sure there are qicker cars too, but the same could be said for any brand. As I said, it's not hatred, it's just confusion over the few people who are so blinkered that they wouldn't own anything other than a rover despite the rest of us being able to see that they're fairly average cars.

My post wasn't 100% directed towards this place, like I said, I get a fair bit of it at work. Most of it is completely unjustified as it's coming from people who've never owned a Rover, never mind had any problems with them so have got nothing to base their opinions on. That can get a little annoying.

It's also very rare that I'll bring my car into a conversation because I can't be bothered with the hassle. If I'm asked what car I drive, I'll just reply "A Rover 400". It's just easier than announcing it's a Turbo and saying that it makes whooshing noises when you put your foot down :D If you go back through my post history, you'll find some of it absolutely cringe worthy. I used to have a similar mindset to some of those other posters and thankfully, have matured quite a lot since.

I still love the cars (as I said, they're a bit rattly but it's a nice, fast, fun car to drive) but don't have the same blinkered views that I used to.

Take the tuning out of the equation for now, but I'd find a 2.0 petrol rover hatchback much more of a yawnfest than a 2.0 focus.

I'll agree with you there. Take away the fast engines and you've got a normal, run of the mill hatchback or saloon. I don't think that they're bad cars (I'm thinking of the Rover 75, Rover 800 and Rover 600 here) but yeah, they don't do anything particularly special if you take away the powerful engine.

I wanted to move to something Jap and 4WD when I turned 25 but life gets in the way. I've kind of lost interest in moving away from the Rovers for the time being. One day though :)

There is one around here that I've seen a few times.

It's in a lovely dark blue with black CRX wheels (or they look similar).

I've been parked next to him when filling up with fuel once or twice, have shown his car a bit of interest but I doubt he's aware of the Rover/Honda partnership and probably thinks I'm some crazy person with an old car fetish, haha.

Noticed that the bumper on the mx5 is melting next to the exhaust.

Also fixed the rear washer on the Focus, pipe had split in theheadlining and was pouring water down into the boot, explains why the passenger rear window kept misting up!

Dem mats, etc.

:D

So apparently not washing your car since October combined with a few thousand miles of road grime, add a bit of snow and ice into the mix and you end up with a car that desperately requires a clean.

Fitted two new Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2's today. The rears were borderline illegal so decided to get them replaced while I still have some spare money (getting laid off at the end of March).

Very happy with them so far, and managed to get them fitted for free as well which was a bonus.

Are you missing a centre cap from your front drivers side wheel Iain? Just looks that way from the photo...

That's not my car :)

Edit - ah, forgotten I had posted a picture of mine further up :). Nope, all wheel caps present and correct - they're quite recessed so look that way. Exhibit B - Phates car above :)

On the note of plastidipping I will be doing that to my front grills, seen it done and the results are impressive.

I'll get Dad to paint it once I've repaired it then probably not bother again, it scrapes all the time, annoying but I've gotten used to it :p

Seriously, stone chip it. Not as smooth/glossy but it doesn't stand out against black and doesn't scrape

Washed mine today. Couldn't wash it last week due to the snow/ice and potential of creating an ice rink.

I've been getting increasingly twitchy this week about not being able to wash it. I think I've got an unhealthy obsession :(
