What have you done to your car today?

Me and some friends from work took our cars to Santa Pod yesterday evening for the late night and then this morning, camping overnight.

We got about 6 runs in between 6:30pm and 8pm. Here's my best run of the evening, against my mate in his 2015 Fiesta ST (me in my 2010 Mustang GT).

I raced the ST 3 or 4 times, each time he got a much quicker start, but then I reeled him in over the second half.

The first run I did, I took traction control off and spent literally 5 seconds, spinning my wheels to start. The rest of the runs I used traction control, but it wasn't until the end that I made the assumption the TC was causing me to bog down and I should have turned it off and practised my launches without it for the best times. I think I could get under 14 seconds then (I've read it can do 13.7)

Unfortunately, it was far too wet this morning to test this, so we headed home. :( Great fun though.

How much does your seat move! And how long is that 2nd gear!

Great fun drag racing - glad you enjoyed it :-)

I only really need 2nd and 3rd gear day to day. Can easily pull away in 2nd, 3rd goes up over 100mph (or so I'm told.. :p )

As for the seat, poor thing, I do weigh over 19st.

Bought 2x 255/35/20 Pirelli P Zeros as my rears were getting very low. Paid the equivalent of £125 for the pair off leboncoin (french equivalent of Gumtree) as the seller had bought them for a car and written it off before he fitted them :p Had to drive quite a way to get them, but even with the cost of petrol/tolls added I've still saved myself quite a bit.

Now all I've got to do is find a place that will fit them without making a total mess of my alloys....

Not my car but my friends, we pulled the engine out today due to the oil pressure light coming on when hot, upon changing the oil last time, we found bits of metal in the oil so knew something wasn't right.

Turns out it wasn't good, oil pump gears scored to hell, spun 2 main bearings and the rest were scored like mad, scored the crank badly, big end bearings are shot. Not even checked for top end damage yet!

Check out the heat marks on the crank too

Mad thing is, there were no knocks of funny noises or anything untoward, I'm shocked it ran so well, we took it out for a drive this morning too!

Well, sadly, my post above regarding the tyre fitters has proved correct.

I asked my French friends if they knew of a decent, reputable place that would fit the tyres without ruining my alloys, and one of them told me about a place they'd worked at for two years who specialised in prestige cars, and are always extremely careful when fitting tyres.

I went there with him, and everything seemed really good - there were a couple of Porsches outside, and some mint looking classic cars being worked on. The owner said it'd cost me €40 to get the two tyres fitted and balanced, which seemed OK to me so I agreed to go ahead with it.

This was the result:

and loads of marks like you can see in the last picture all over the wheels where he must have used a crowbar or something to get the tyres off. You can also see his top class touch-up paint skills where he tried to remedy the situation.

When I asked him what the **** he was doing, he told me that this was normal for Jaguar wheels, as British wheels are much lower quality than the German cars he usually worked on. I pointed out that I'd had tyres fitted to these wheels several times in the past, including at dodgy backstreet places in London, and they sustained no damage whatsoever.

Naturally, I received absolutely no compensation for this, and was given the overall impression that they genuinely felt I was in the wrong. Had this happened in England, or indeed at a place where I wasn't with someone who was best friends with the moron who fitted the tyres, I'd have refused to leave until they'd given me the money for a refurb.

It was all incredibly awkward for my friend, as his family owns the hotel opposite the garage, and they all go to dinner together every few weeks, which is also how he ended up working there in the past. He offered to pay for a refurb himself but I refused as it wasn't really his fault. Just going to live with it for the moment and maybe get them refurbed in a few months when I've decided if I'm keeping or selling the car.

Ouch, well can't expect much from the French :o

:p

The sad thing is, you're totally right. Anything that involves taking care of something, doing a job properly or displaying any kind of customer service is beyond even the most prestigious businesses here. There's many things I'll miss when I come back to England, but I'll be delighted to leave this kind of ******** behind.

My 93 Supra finally came back from the paintshop after 2 months. The previous owner resprayed it about 2 weeks before I picked it up. About 2 years later the paint was a total mess and they had not taken the windows out to spray but on the day I bought it, it did look good.
Hopefully now things have been done properly it will have many more years left in it yet. :)

Yes I need to adjust the bonnet and yes I reset the wiper position.

Took it to the garage for a swap out of an earth lead (product improvement notice )

They're putting my private plate on while I'm here too
