What have you done to your car today?

I paid just under £190 up front for an exchange wheel - the way it works is they send out a newly retrimmed one (colour/design of my choosing pretty much), when I swap them over I send my used one back and they refund me £50.

Factoring in the postage to send my old wheel to them it'll be £150 all in, fitted it myself as its pretty straightforward on the '5.

Didn't do much today. Spent the day mostly in the 5 series cruising around looking for another 4x4 with little success.

Then came home and had the first proper drive in the P38 Range Rover since it's service / brakes overhaul. Loved it. The 4.0 V8 is far from fast, or economic, but that's not the point in these. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed my previous P38. And it has all but cemented my want for a decent L322 now. I think swapping out the F11 for a nice (2011+) one is a non-starter though, so I'll probably wait for my bonus in September and start looking for a reasonably nice Supercharged / TDV8 one (circa 2007).

Replaced the old skinny shiny bus wheel with a new one courtesy of Royal Steering wheels, really impressed with it :). Fairly straightforward job to replace on this car as well, done inside an hour and thats leaving half of that time with the battery disconnected....

Gone for a thickened wheel (stock Mk3 MX5 one is too thin IMO), with thumb grips, perforated leather at sides and a red strip at the top (because race car :p), excuse the potato pic...

Really happy with it, looks much fresher and feels nicer in the hand. This and the heavyweight gear knob from TWM are so much nicer than the stock wheel and shift knob.

That looks great! If I still owned my mx5, I'd definitely consider getting the wheel re-trimmed, as mine had quite a lot of wear on the leather.

I went back to ATS today.

Sure enough a lot of the gas had gone out of the air con. However the guy mentioned that there was no oil in the system as he would have expected. He said it "could have been" the last technician forgetting to do that part when filling up on Friday...

Anyway I questioned the leak test process to which he said he would change the test from 4min pressure testing to 10min to ensure it was leak free. Then refilling and ensuring that the oil was put in as required.

It passed all the tests and is now filled again. Output from the machine below:

Hopefully it lasts now! We'll see...

I used to live is Smerick years ago. and Ladywood and Bearwood. - bet it's changed a bit now though -:D

Yes, I wired the S15 that way because I didn't want a crap looking bolt on light, that has 2 bulbs per side though and the fog only takes over one of them, not sure if it would work if you only had 1.

Why not use a reversing light? On my R32 and RX7's I made the right hand side reversing light into a foglight (red bulb and wiring to suit)

Awesome. How you gonna see when reversing in the dark then? Or how are others gonna know you are reversing? Sounds like a well thought out plan indeed.

Reverse lights aren't an MOT requirement? You sure? Surely they are seen as they are there to let other know that your car is moving backwards.

Be fun in a busy car park and no reverse light.

Awesome. How you gonna see when reversing in the dark then?

As an F11 owner, a car with reversing lights so bad a candle is better, you of all people should realise that reversing lights are not about lighting where you are going they are purely about indicating to others that you are reversing.

Which is daft, but there you go.

Replaced both gaiters. I've been on a mission since getting the car to track down the same gaiters I had in the old car, they were thick Italian leather, not like the advertised "thick" ones online which turn out to be not that thick.

This will be the 3rd pair and last as I've found them! nice and thick, hard wearing and looks nice against the Sport knob and chunkier steering wheel

Android head unit didnt work as I wanted so it's come out and going back for a refund. All credit to the vendor (Icebox auto), tried to help and didnt quibble when I asked to return it. He's going to send me some details of higher end units that I might be able to exchange for but I'll probably just take the refund and buy a Pioneer Appradio and use Carplay. Was good in principal but didnt work as I'd hoped
