What have you done to your car today?

Gotta say I prefer before.

Me too!

Completed all of this at: http://ramp-it-up.co.uk
£15 per hour to hire a ramp/lift with a comprehensive set of quality tools including air line and impact gun. Made the above much easier and much more enjoyable than led on my back on a damp drive.

They also dispose of the old oil and parts.

That looks really handy, thanks for posting

I'll use this place anytime I need to do any work under the car or with the wheels off as it's just so much easier, quicker and more enjoyable with a lift and impact gun!

If you're local they're having a 1 year opening open day tomorrow so good opportunity to have a nose at the facilities.

I've no affiliation with the place or owner. Just a happy customer.

I wish there was something like that around here. Will be embarking on a full suspension refresh on the Z tomorrow (and during the week) on the drive, and the weather looks terrible. Not looking forward to it as much as I should which is a shame.

Now that's bloody useful I have to say. Will probably get by with the new coilovers on my drive, but will certainly consider that for the suspension arm replacement and rear trailing arm bushings - thank you!

As its in tip top condition with pretty much all common e39 issues resolved (VANOS, DISA, CCV, rocker gasket, viscous fan clutch, rear wiper mechanism, hedgehog, headlight adjusters, PDC sensors), 4 premium tyres with loads of life left, a few choice leather trim parts and just had its inspection 2 and 12 months MOT, I am going to price it right at the top end of the spectrum at £4k.

I'm in no rush for it to go and think it is worth that to the right buyer.

Oh, also had the front end repainted so it's aesthetically very tidy too!
Good e39s are starting to go for nuts money considering their age/popularity :(

Today I've been making this :

Rear cleaned up, got rid of the silly Nurburgring sticker, and the god-awful pink sti one, which wasn't an original anyway, it was even more pink than it needed to be.

Found out the foglight decals I ordered were smaller than the original so ordered a couple the right size this time :o

Changed my clutch slave cylinder which the internet told me was "a piece of cake" "I did mine in like half an hour" which turned out to be a mare of a job that took nearly three hours.

Jumped in the car to try it and... still no clutch. That will be the master cylinder that I should have changed then

I didn't have much love for my MX5 to start with and now (along with the other jobs that need doing on it) I'm pretty sick of the thing.

Wish I'd bought a cheap one as I'd just shift it on now.

As slave cylinders go, it's not the easiest job - especially as the pattern part is rubbish for some models. The access is pretty rubbish. Let us know how you get on with the master cylinder as it's a common problem on them.

What other jobs need doing?

When the slave died on our car it killed the master too as it ran dry and damaged the o-rings. PITA and didn't know until we had it all back together!

Well that makes me feel a little bit better :)

Mainly annoyed at the fact that if I'd really thought about the symptoms (i.e. no loss of fluid) I could have probably ruled out the slave cylinder but instead I went with the internets advice of "9 times out of 10 it is the slave cylinder". Was only a £15 part so no big deal... he says cradling his busted knuckles :p

Other jobs are-

Slipping alternator belt, not a big job but annoying as the belt was changed by the garage that did the cambelt and they never got the tension right.

All the brake callipers could do with a remove and regrease as they bind occasionally due to lack of use.

Needs a new boot. I found that someone had damaged one of the threaded inserts for the luggage rack (OEM permanent type) so bodged it with a wall plug.

Bits of paint need tidying up.

Could do with a new roof shortly.

Nothing major for a car of this age. Main reason I'm fed up with it is that since getting a company car it is a bit of a burden and I never get to use it. Oh and in the week it has been parked outside the house someone has caught the rear corner and scuffed it up

To be honest it sounds like the body work is your main problem and I understand that - dings, dents and flakes can really dull your interest for your car as your eyes are always drawn to the defects you know are there when you look at it.

The alternator belt should be a 5 minute job, and the brakes are reasonably simple to overhaul too, if a little time consuming.

Started to fit this little lot before the deluge started:

Oh, and some new EBC Redstuff pads which I forgot to include in the picture.
