e39 yes? Cam angle sensor fault will cause tragic power loss and is often intermittent.
Yes Clarkey, it's a 2000 e39 530i Sport.
I've had both cam position sensors changed as & when they've thrown codes, the latest one being this Saturday just gone, I'm assuming cam angle is the same as cam position? Or, is there another sensor I've overlooked?
The power loss is dramatic, yes - but the car is still driveable, even on a hill, and it's extremely intermittent, sometimes two or three times a day, it comes and goes in the same cycle if you see what I mean i.e. without switching off, other times it behaves for weeks.
When it's behaving, it's lovely! The cps swap at the weekend has transformed the power delivery - when it delivers!

- much better pick up and more responsive, but, I can still detect a slight hesitation on pull away....
Had it read again today and no codes are flagging up.
Do you have a part number I can look up?
Cheers.
One thing about this car compared to all my previous BMW's is it always takes a few cranks of the engine for it to fire on starting where my others would all literally fire as you turned the key, I can't help thinking this is pointing toward my issue but, as of yet, I've not pinned it down.
