What have you done to your car today?

Thanks for the advice. It has the PPP kit so is running the PPP remap currently.

I'll look at getting one done relatively soon though - unless it's likely to cause any damage as it is? Starvation/overfuelling etc? (I'm not mechanically minded..) In which case I'll throw the stock airbox back in until it's ready for dyno/mapping.

Generally under fuelling causing them to run lean, personally I'd run the stock airbox until you we're having it mapped.

It may well be fine but on a reasonably highly strung turbocharged engine it doesn't take long for a lean spike to cause enough detonation to ruin your day

Removed the under bonnet soundproofing (because racecar) and ground down the rust patch on the roof, treated it with phosphoric acid, and painted it with rust proof paint. Will give it another coat tomorrow, then sand it down, then look into having it sprayed and blended at a bodyshop. :)

It's a big no no on the 15's, upsets the fueling big style, I'd put it on when you get it mapped next

Suggestion from someone whose been mapping these things for the last 11 years...
Put the standard airbox back on.
It gains you absolutely nothing, even if remapped.

Thanks, I've the same engine as the 15 so imagine it's quite the same theory then.

Standard airbox is already back on :) Did that today as well as giving it a good clean. Glad I picked up the AEM cheap, would be able to make a profit by selling it.

If it really doesn't improve power at all then I don't think I'll bother with it, as that was the only under-the-hood mod I was planning on doing for the foreseeable future (other than an oil cooler), and having looked at dyno/mapping prices then it'd be quite a waste just for a CAI.

Assembling my painted turbo pipes, gaskets for the water kneck have arrived so hopefully all put back together for a nice drive this weekend.

Got my new turbo bits now. A comparison shows just how much was missing lol.

All built up now. Boxed it up ready to send off to balancing tomorrow. Hopefully get it back in time and working in time for Santa Pod on the 26th.

Took the A5 in for a 38k (ish) mile service and got a nice new A3 SLine 2.0 TDI to play with while it was in

Steering wheel was nice, rest was meh and hate the pop up console screen

How did you find the glare on the pop up screen? Surely it must be a massive issue on sunny days (which admittedly are few and far between), even with my iDrive screen shrouded quite nicely if the sun is in the wrong position it can make it quite hard to read, so surely having nothing as a surround just makes this problem so much more frequent?

It was (for a change ;) ) a grey overcast day in Manchester yesterday !

I think the tinted windows would help a bit and the screen (to me) seemed to be tilted slightly forward - I just didnt like the angle of it and it looks flimsy and like someone has just stuck an ipad on the dash on a stupid mount

Much prefer them in the dash / console

I have no issues with mine, even when the weather was 30 odd degrees it was easily readable. I don't think it's in a position that gets much light unless it's sunrise or sunset. I have mine down most of the time though.

Two rear suspension drop links replaced due to play, I felt movement whilst towing my caravan recently and my o/s/f link changed as I discovered it was bent(!) no knocking sound mind you, just noticed it visually.....

Had my other cam position sensor swapped, paid to get it done as its buried in the engine bay, my engine now starts on first turn of the key where previously it cranked a few times before firing.....

Mass air flow sensor changed too (Siemens item) - warranty which was nice, it was replaced a month or so back but is still throwing up a fault code - all supplied and fitted for £300, happy with that.

Very pleased with the drive afterwards, car felt much more responsive and sure footed.

Until the next bill....... :p

Edit:I Spoke too soon! :( On the drive home I got a check engine light and it lost power, it's back at the garage until it's sorted. :/

Went for a nice drive via Asda in Brighton, and afterwards noticed a dent in my drivers door. Scumbags. :(

One sympathises, just found a big scratch down my mito when i cleaned it today. The thing is so littered with dings and scratches I'm debating whether it's worth getting the car resprayed or binning it for something else. It'd be an easy decision if it was one panel but about 75% of the car needs respraying as well as the wheels requiring a refurb. Might let winter pass then take the hit and get it all tidied up and stick with it for a couple more years however that new car itch is beginning to creep in too.
