What have you done to your car today?

Oh noes!

06 Plate Mazda 6mps

yes good guess :)

i looked it up and yes easy to do.
its the wife's car so had to tow her about 1/2 mile to the nearest garage or 5 miles home.

decided the garage was the easiest thing to do on this occasion.

So why the hell do Ford and most local garages want £400 to service my car and do the belt? 1.8 diesel, is it much harder?

That must be the cambelt surely..? Totally different kettle of fish if so.

If thats £400 for a service and aux belt you're being taken for a wild ride. :p

Thats a lot! Im pretty sure they are stretch belts on them, they are a nightmare of a job without the proper tools but jesus thats expensive!

Hmm maybe it is a belt.

Finished up changing the cracked exhaust manifold on my parents E60, between the weather and waiting for bit's to arrive it took a lot longer than I would have liked.

Had a good few cracks in it, replaced with a new cast iron one as the stainless OEM ones are prone to this problem.

Well I had some fun Sat just gone. The car has been running like a dream for months then on the day was due to be my car at my wedding, I get into it in the morning to take it for a wash and the dash lights up with low coolant warning. Turn around and go home, pull up and I see coolant dripping from the passenger side rad at the front. Queue frantic stripping down and 20 mins later I find a split in the return hose for the rad. Luckily I had loads of spare hoses from my cooling system rebuild so I cut one to size and secured it in place as a temporary fix.

Happy to report that the car made the wedding! I do need to review all the piping for the cooling system now as I thought that I had replaced it all but apparently not. I replaced some 18 hoses but clearly there are a few sneaky ones that I missed

I bought that and it is rubbish. I simply use it now as an over spray remover. Best way is to use a fine artist brush and fill the hole carefully then wet sand with 3M Tri disks (3000grit). Then polish off with a D/A.

I read through it and it sounds like it takes longer than the normal method.
I use a cocktail stick to put the paint in, sometimes use a de-nibber but i find wet and dry is fastest, some 2000 and 5000 on the end of a lolly pop stick, then some machine polishing.
Just need to wait for a dry day now, fingers crossed for this saturday.

Hardtop on, along with the new winter wheels and tyres...think I prefer the summer ones to be honest, the black goes better than gunmetal! Still better than flakey badly refurbished factory rims though :). May change the Rota centre caps for the ones I have with the mazda logo, for a more factory look.

An OCD job that mrk would be proud of....I decided this little bracket in the engine bay was looking manky, the plating has failed and it was starting to rust...

The plating has started to go, it looked a mess, in my opinion its the small details that make an engine bay, I managed to get a replacement bracket from a 2013 car that was being scrapped, first used metal polish and wire wool to clean it up, hit it with some etch primer, then satin black paint, get some A4 stainless nuts/washers and re-installed it...neater now!

Got a CTEK maintenance charger for the car as well and you can see the flylead for this tied up. Really impressed with the CTEK, can see why they're the 'go to' brand whenever anyone asks for recommendations for a charger.

Gave the engine bay a mild spruce up as well:

Some suspension changes soon hopefully (doing what I should have done all along which is buy some Ohlins).

Wait wait wait, whats going on under the bonnet? For some reason I always assumed yours was visual mods and bolt ons only!
