What have you done to your car today?

It's a 4 cylinder diesel, if it won't do 50something on an easy motorway run you need to question the point in having it :p

I question the point every day.

I need a turbo petrol in my life...!

One day

My 4 cylinder diesel just averaged 29 MPG over 700 miles. I think I'm doing it wrong :(

I understand that my 4 cylinder diesel is old and low powered, but if I go out and thrash it within an inch of its life I cannot get it below 40MPG average. Hell, when I was at Santa Pod I reset when I arrived and checked it when I left, and it was reading 42MPG average... :D

To shave another 10MPG or more off of that I think I would have to be stuck in Indian traffic for a week, half way through my journey.

Did you have a few passengers?

Got my rear washer working... luckily it had just come loose in the engine bay so after removing the air filter cover managed to sqeeze my hands in and click it back into place.

Over the past two days, with the Rexton I was given:

Full valet to see what I was dealing with, then:
2 new front tyres
New bonnet badge
Removed car park dings
Colour matched some stripped paint
Oil change + filter
Fuel filter change (messy)
Air filter (k&n)
Pollen filter
Replaced bulbs that weren't working
Sorted out foggy headlights (using 3M kit from amazon)
Fitted new wiper blades (aero twins)
Fitted new mats
Fitted new gear knob
Fitted new number plates (front and rear)
Fitted some LED reverse bulbs I had in the garage
Had it up on a ramp and checked all underneath plus brakes
Replaced drivers door seal, old one was damaged
Given it a good run and put some super diesel in it

Bits outstanding:
Remove wiper arms and rub down, prime and spray black as they look terrible, missing paint etc.
Fit reverse sensor kit so mrs doesn't crash it (from amazon)
Fit new stereo (cheap Alpine unit with Bluetooth, so we can steam music and connect phone like in the VW)
Ordered a dimming rear view mirror with camera, from eBay China so will wire in when it arrives
Fit seat covers so we can chuck the dogs in
Fit racechip to get it up to 200BHP when it arrives (dispatched today from Germany)

Done other little bits but it's a lot happier now and drives quite nice, only got 60k on it.

I think you're getting attached to that car! :p

For me, still messing around with the Fiestas rear bulbs. Checked on mot history and it's only ever failed on the rear fog light not working, on further inspection the housing is quite corroded, with white stuff all over it, and moving the bulb slightly got it working again so that's the next job.
I'm an expert at removing those rear light fittings now...

It's got a bit of charm to it, truth be told the VW is so new it doesn't need anything so I've secretly enjoyed tinkering with Rex! :D

I know what you mean about corroded bulb, my brother in law has a Ford mk1 focus and I had to remove the whole fog/reverse light, drill a small hole in it with my Dremel to drain it, then attack it with a wire brush and WD40, then clean up all the contacts and put a new bulb in and reseal the unit. Bloody nightmare!!

Finally got round to installing the new cabin filter which arrived before Christmas....

Bah... The light is actually making it appear cleaner than what it is.
