What have you done to your car today?

There are more than a couple of national stations who pride themselves on zero chat and all music.

That only negates half of the issue. You still have the compromise of inevitably having to listen to a song you either merely tolerate or do not like (or worse). In a world where we now have the ability to create and access limitless numbers of playlists, consisting purely of songs you do like, in virtually any location, I don't see why radio still appeals. I only ever use the radio for traffic updates, but that itself is largely negated by the digitalisation of that too.

I personally use a mix of both. I've got an SD card with 700 or so tracks on in my car that does the job for the vast majority of my listening, but every so often I just can't be bothered with it so I will have DAB on for a while. Yes, I have to flip through stations every so often when some music I don't like comes on, but more choice can never be a bad thing. There's enough DAB stations available where I can find something I want to listen to without a great deal of effort and if/when it really is all crap I just flip back to my SD card.

If it wasn't for radio then I probably wouldn't know half of the new stuff that comes out. That may arguably be a good thing but that's besides the point. Radio helps me be more aware of new stuff because I seem to spend my life driving, at work or being hassled by my kids :)

Is there a treatment or finish I can put on the inside of my exhaust tips?

The tips get extremely hot, and in winter weather conditions the dirt gets baked onto the inner tip walls. Unless I wipe them after every long journey, then wiping the crap away is very difficult, so I end up having to elbow grease them away with Autosol.

I'm wondering if there is some kind of protection I can apply so that this isn't an issue any longer?

My tips are polished stainless steel. And I can see why some people opt for black gloss tips on other models.

Lol

:D Stop mocking the afflicted...

The problem with the E46 M3 is the exhausts are very much in your face and on show..

Take this picture of mine yesterday..

All I see is a very dirty car... I think there is an M3 under there somewhere ;)

I really wish it didn't bother me.. :)

In other news, I decided that despite being OK with the current cades alloys on the car, I will get a set of CSL reps which I think suit what I'm doing with the car, I'm not a purist, but keeping relatively oem is never a bad thing and I was going to get the current alloys refurbed due to garage idiots burning the paint off due to not having deep enough sockets (I bought the car like this) and tried a set of oem 19's which look OK to be fair, but I prefer that modified but still reasonably oem look..

edit - looking at MRKs CSL style diffuser, maybe that's not a bad idea.. I might look in to one when I get the bumpers/bonnet resprayed later in the year

I prefer listening to people talk at 6.30 in the morning, and not one of my usual thrash-metal-centric playlists. I also like to listen to the news as I drive to work. It's also a rock station so I catch the odd song I haven't heard from in a while or have forgotten.

I always listen to the radio on my commute, it's entertainment and keeps me amused. I don't need to listen to music all the time and if they put on a song I don't like I just use Deezer to play one I do like.

This, except replace Deezer with built-in HDD.

I get bored of non-stop music, a bit of chat breaks up the monotony, as does interjections of the news.

You actually use the built in HDD? Mine is empty, it was a good idea years ago but I've no idea why they still bother, u guess as it has a HDD for the nav anyway it might as well do music. But for storage USB is more flexible, easier to load and larger anyway.

Took the car in for a service, MOT and brakes.

Got a VW Up as a courtesy car...how I do not miss a manual, it's been a full year since I driven one, not stalled once yet. :D

Got the car back, clean bill of health.

Checked dash cam footage, all good, apart from not putting the seatbelt on at the start he didn't floor it and took care to avoid potholes. I'll go back again next time for sure.
