Slimmed down plate:

Ooooo ta, the hilux had the smallest I could legally get but it attracted too much attention from people asking why I had an illegal plate :p

That Ranger is boss!

My tyre pressure sensor went off so I had them checked and found all to be super low. For some reason I hadn't bothered to check them in almost a year! Rookie stuff.

Gave the W124 its first proper clean (wash/pressure wash/foam/polish/wax). Still need to do the engine bay properly, and vacuum the interior out, but getting there. Happy with how it looks, though - only needs a few minor odd jobs doing. Not bad considering its age (getting on for 24).

That really is ace. Excellent condition too! Does that impression continue underneath in terms of rust etc?

I suspect it wasn't a cheapy?

It's got a few blemishes around the rear arches, and some tiny patches elsewhere - but zero in terms of structural stuff. Has a few knocks and scrapes, too, but still looks pretty smart for its age.

It's just coming up on 102k. I paid £1600 for it, which didn't feel unreasonable. It just looked and felt right, so I didn't object to paying that much for it. I'd looked at a few others, all around the £1000 mark, and they were not anywhere near as nice - and covered in visible rot.

Perfect for just parking in train station car parks and the like, so I can avoid test cars getting knocked about. Just so relaxing, too, and I genuinely look forward to driving it - which makes quite a difference to the start of each day...

Bargain that!

Let me know how it is on fuel, I'm seriously considering going full retard and running an old Merc along side the E30 as a daily driver in the place of the MX5... I've caught the old car bug now... Plus the MX5 needs welding doing anyway, and it should sell for a similar amount as a W124 would cost if I sell in summer...

Looks great. I know they were from the built to last generation but surely they didn't all take the years as well as that!?

Mechanically, most hold up remarkably well. Cosmetically, a lot get neglected. This one appears to have been well cared for, though; it's only had four owners (the past one only had it six months, as a runaround), and they all appear to have maintained it well :)

Let me know how it is on fuel.

Will do! Haven't got through a tank, yet... appears quite frugal! Yes, recommend picking one up - such a lovely car to a) work on and b) be in...

I shortened my plate. It 'should' be 33mm space between 'groups' so I took that and used it at start and end of plate. Poor angle I know:

Lashout shouldn't it have had the clear indicators and side repeaters on the front? With it being a facelift and all?

do like that 124! have wanted an C124 for YEARS.

Maybe some day, mate had has many and he said other than the wiring looms going poof there's not much to go wrong with them.

proper road presence too.

Correct. They were retrofitted in '14. It's also got pre-facelift alloys on, which I prefer :)

Top spotting!

Thought the alloys were from the prefacelift but wasn't too sure so didn't mention them. Grew up with these in estate form so I know my way around them a little. Such great cars.

Finally got rounded to buying some more Autosol and cleaning the inside of the tips.

Much better.

Left side tip has a loose pop rivet or two though, so need to buy a new rivet gun, preferably one with a swivel head, to get some new rivets on there.

Sounds like a major PITA for what in theory should have been a quick and easy one!

Looks really sublime on CSL wheels, they always do! They the ones that bloke supplies on cutters?

Yup, got the wheels of Crimcn (£480). The quality is OK, but no doubt you hey what you pay for. The cades that I took off are slightly better quality in terms of finish, and should recoup a little. Will have to look at the CSL rear diffuser and front splitter, seems a popular upgrade to match the wheels.

I enjoy working on the car, but there is an element of undoing other people's shoddy work, luckily I've done enough on it now and refreshed so much it's getting to a well sorted state so getting easier to work on.

Nice and shiny!

Taken it for a service, which I suspect will be a very overpriced oil change and not even a clean as I told them not to wash the car. Also having a noise investigated and to check over the clutch/DCT which seems a little slippy first thing in the morning.

Sold the Skoda to a pair of Polish chaps.

£700. I was hoping for £800~ but it will do as it was quick and saves me paying another months insurance on it.

Cost me £1200 a year ago, and I've put 20,000+ miles on it since, and it paid for itself in fuel savings at least twice when I was working in London. :)

All it needed was £5 of welding to the exhaust hangers, £80 for a belt, tensioner, and aux pulley kit, £100 for a wheel bearing, and £15 for a window regulator in my ownership.

Oh and about 5 minutes ago I drove the MX5 into the brick step outside my house and now have a small scuff on the lower front bumper, broken paint, but will be invisible with a smart repair type job.

Fail!!
