What have you done to your car today?

Have you actually tried these pads on a car, out of interest? I was sceptical about this compound myself, thinking they would just be too much, until I drove a car with them fitted. If I find the longer term characteristics unacceptable (if, for example, they start to squeal like an old bus, lose bite, chew through discs at a stupid rate, produce dust which wrecks my wheels or similar) then I will swap them out.

Having got the car back just now they seem fine, have been out to do some big stops with them fitted, to get some heat through them... ..they are perhaps a bit grabby but perfectly usable and bite far better than the cosworth pads I had before (which were pretty poor but the choice is not exactly great for this car... DS2500s would be my go to choice but they don't do them in this fitment).

Nope, haven't tried the M1166 because they were too "hardcore" for my purposes - and my purposes was going to include a 1 track day a month. The M1144 performs brilliantly on track, but can get a little bit fadey after 5-10 hard laps. Ideally I could do with the M1155's. I'm interested to see how you get on with your 66's but IIRC they meant for track cars only as you don't get anywhere near the optimum temperatures they demand on the road, so you never get the best out of them.

Lohen's blurb on them ends with:

"This is a race only material and not suitable for the road. 'Best suited' for race use."

1144 ought to be ideal for an mx5. Thats what my friend (shoes) uses in his, the performance is excellent and they don't really go off even after 25 minute sessions of banzai driving.
Used 1155 on the front of my e36 and found them to be really quite wooden and unresponsive when used on the road, needed a couple of laps to get enough temp to get them working. I can only imagine 1166 would be even worse, I suppose it could go the other way like CL pads which are extremely grabby and difficult to modulate when cold and destroy the discs in 5000 miles.

Phew. I really hate parking dings. Had one on the 328 and I just zoomed in on it every time I walked to the car

Same here! If only i could be one of those people who can easily ignore it haha, it bugs me everytime i see them! A rubbish bin got blown off the front garden and smashed into my Mazda 3, that now has a nice ding too :o

Just did oil/oil filter/pollen filter/air filter on the Fiesta which doesn't get much use these days but being a petrol, it's handy for those occasional short runs when we can't be bothered to drive one of the other cars.

Got everything done in no time at all, cleaned everything up, gave the oil a final check before closing the bonnet and...it wouldn't stay shut. At first I thought the cable had snapped because the lever inside the car was really loose, but it hadn't. From some Googling I found various people saying that the mechanism just sticks and that spraying it with WD40 and moving the latch parts around will sort it out (for a while). Didn't expect it but it turns out that they were right so it's opening and closing fine for now. I'm assuming it's only a temp fix and I'll have the problem again next time I open the bonnet unless I use some proper grease.

Anyone have any thoughts on what sort of grease I should be using for this?

WD40 evaporates and doesn't really leave much lubricant behind.

Depending on how accessible the mechanism is, I use 3-in-1 oil or a spray on white lithium grease which is used for hinges etc..

I removed the hardtop last week, and realised the autoglym hood waterproofer wasn't doing it's full job during the week, on looking at how well our bbq cover had lasted over winter after I proofed it with Fabsil Gold I decided to give that a go on the convertible roof..

So will see how that goes..

It goes on easily (just brushed on) and ever so slightly seems to take the white haze off the roof, it looks a tiny bit darker/cleaner so that's a bonus.. £14 for 1L which I didn't even use half of..

This is more of a trial, I want to get the renovo dye kit, and do it properly closer to summer but you want a few days in a row of nice weather for that.

Other than that, with a minor clean over winter, it's just a case of enjoying it!

I was planning to do a cupra r conversion to the rear of my car (diffuser and dual exit exhaust) As my current backbox is corroding quite badly. However, I can't as I have a carvan toe thing. Standard side exit will have to do.

I was thinking to do this but the more I thought of doing the exhaust the more I got put off. So I rather just get a side exit. Less headache.

When I read that I had visions of black smoke pouring out of a straight pipe exiting at the side of the car under the doors. :D
