What have you done to your car today?

When I read that I had visions of black smoke pouring out of a straight pipe exiting at the side of the car under the doors. :D

Well it wouldn't be a bad idea for scene points. Just to point out my car doesn't smoke. Not as bad as some I've seen.

Got up and outside for 8.00 and washed car before sun got to high in sky - was bit chilly but use a pair of running gloves with rubber gloves on top.

Tried something different - put car shampoo in snow foam bottle and pressure washed it but could also run micro fibre cloth over it as well - wasn't so much dirty as totally covered in buff coloured dust from track to clay shooting ground yesterday.

Picked it up :)

In total it cost me 1092.34, which got me 2 new front disks, 2 new front calipers, 1 rear caliper and brake fluid. So the warranty saved me around £1000-1500 based on the prices BMW would have charged me for the parts/labour that was covered.

I had forgotten how nice it is to brake in it with out any juddering. It was also sunny and 16/17 so yay for the roof being able to be down as well.

could have been much worse if the warranty didn't cover the rest. I can't even find the calipers to buy, and when I looked a week ago the oem disks I could find were all sold out (at £500 for a set). I didn't look around much as it was always going to go to BMW but I can't see it being much cheaper if at all going to an independent. And thats if the parts could be sourced in a reasonable time frame.

Changed the transmission oil in the ATR and freed up a sticky caliper piston just by pushing it in, pumping it out a few times and cleaning a bit of corrosion off the piston.

Seem to have the same resistant as the other piston on the same caliper now after a few cycles. Not sure how long it will last though. Hopefully last till I get my company car again so that I can have it off the road and have all 4 calipers refurbished.

Anyone know any good places for Caliper refurb? Heard good things about Bigg Red and BCS, anyone tried them?

My nephew is in for a world of butt hurt. He's burnt through two front tyres in less than a few thousand miles showing off and now he's just received a letter from his black box insurance company cancelling his policy for speeding. I bet they don't even use lube. That'll be him walking for a few years.

And I sense 0 sympathy from you! Black boxes serving their purpose there though, hopefully it'll calm him down and stop him or someone else getting hurt.

First I've heard of them cancelling a policy because of speeding. Must have been excessive speeding, quite often!

That is precisely why I paid £1700 for a standard policy instead of £900 for a black box policy when I got my first car.

I could drive at silly hours, hoon it around, get wheelspin, lift off oversteer on roundabouts, do J-Turns in a car park, and even crash it into a tree and get it towed home without so much as a raised eyebrow from the insurance company. :p

If I had a box policy I wouldn't have had a lot of valuable first car experiences. :)

This is how we learn. Mollycoddle UK nowadays for the younger generation, no way I would have a black box on my car, I would rather pay the higher premium.

same, paid more to have no black box! awful things that will soon be mandatory.

Nothing wrong with lowering as long as long as it's a sensible ride height and doesn't bury the tyre into the arch. A subtle drop can make a really nice difference to a cars aesthetics.

You guys :D But this is mainly why, the arch gap is somewhat epic at the front. I've ordered Eibach Pro Kit springs so it really won't sit that low and the ride comfort shouldn't really change as they're not as firm as the Sportlines I usually end up with. However, it also won't look like it's had a 2" lift at the front. I took it all around the peak district the other day with some friends on a run out, it was interesting but tricky keeping with the quicker stuff. The car costs pennies to run so 130 quid on some springs and I will change the tyres soon should make the most of it. It does actually hang on alright, if you ignore the terrible steering feel :D But you make the most of what you got.
