What have you done to your car today?

16 years old is only what, a Y reg? :p

Dads A6 is on a Y plate, still feels as tight as a drum. The bottoms of the doors have just started going rusty though, so the bottom edges are in primer at the moment.

Received my OBDEleven. Had quite a few codes on my car so cleared them all.

I then recoded my stereo for AUX input I installed - but the quality of the AUX is terrible. Need to take it out and have another look because I also get an antenna fault code, so may have done something wrong due to rushing the install.

Quite liking the OBDEleven.

Drove to the pub and noticed my drivers side mirror is starting to come unstuck. Hoping it stays on till i get back home :/

edit: It didn't but it came off in my hands so didn't break. Need to put it back on now.

Had a busy weekend on the jetta, upgraded the canbus module for a newer unit from a 09 A3, removed, stripped and replaced the abs modulator with a new unit after the ESP fault and fitted a new battery, This required a ABS and brake bleed. Also gave it a good clean inside and out. All four jobs being overdue by about three months due to work commitments. £500+ later and im glad to have finally got them sorted though it has made me realise i need to spend some money on the car as it isn't in the shape i would like it. Also picked up a Vcds in all that so i could carry out the work myself which is a godsend.
Vcds also says i need to replace the glow plugs and/or harness as cylinder 2 is showing a fault and give a little attention to the second engine fan as that has an obstruction.

Plan is to have all the paint fixed as some rust snots are showing and it's 10y/o so started to show its age, I also ordered a new bumper as mine is just not in good shape
list of jobs for me then

CANbus upgrade - check
ABS modulator install - check
New battery - check
Full service -
DSG oil change -
Glow plug/harness swap -
Engine fan -
install new bumper/grills -
paint work bought to new -
New OEM wheels -

Looks like it is going to be a very busy, very expensive summer!

It was indeed to retrofit a 510 headunit and correct the battery drain issue.
Need to start shopping for the best type of solution for my paint repair, it's starting to get some rust on one or two arches a small scrape on one, stone chips on the bonnet (several) and a snot on my boot lip also. Im hoping full resprays can be avoided and just some local spot work with a full machine polish following that will suffice, has any one had any work like his before?

Totally depends on how bad it is what the most sensible course of action is - ultimately it will always come back unless you put fresh metal in (which has its own pitfalls given you'll potentially create weak spots at the welds), but if the rot hasn't set in too much grinding it back, treating and painting will probably last a few years without any obvious signs.

Depends how long you really think you will own it i guess

Drove it, nearly had a head on with an idiot overtaking a cyclist on a blind bend on a 50mph road. People are morons.

Yep a Y plate and as you say if you take care of them since new age doesn't matter.

I have people ask me how my car is, drop their jaw and say "wow, it looks half that does it break down?", I respond never yet (other than replacing the battery a couple times) and then they proceed to tell me that "I should change it as its getting old"!

When I change this one its not because its old its will be just to get a more drivers car!

I have just finished stripping the Denso Nav with Bluetooth & Voice unit out of my old Mondeo TDCi and retrofitted it into my ST220, it went well, but took all day.

Totally agree with this, my old Mondeo TDCi is on a 53 plate with 240k ish on the clock, it drives perfect as I have maintained it properly, unfortunately I am having to strip it and sell it as parts as it'll only be worth about £300 even though it has £300 worth of tyres on it and absolutely everything works as intended, no knocks, bangs or rattles.

Fitted a pair of Philips Xtreme Vision +130% bulbs because one of the Osram Nightbreakers gave up after 14 months. Sorted out yet another sticking brake caliper, also cleaned up and rust proofed as much of the brake lines on the back as I could access easily. Then hoovered and washed it.

MOT time and I've been ignoring a fault in the abs system for far to long now so a couple of weeks ago I was followed a guide on doing some abs fault testing, got the ecu out to gain access to the harness, having had to remove the rear seats and the interior for the rear (in the rain and in the back of an already cramped car I may add) only to find the ecu was different to the guide, i threw a grump and just locked up and left it like that for a few weeks until today. today I put it back together and greased the electric aerial just to have done something positive.
Now the weather is nicer I can do what I should have from the start and jacked the thing up and tested a relay that's a common problem on gto's.
