I have a pair of the quads and they are fantastic, if you want a more verbose review, check ericp10 (sp?) on headfi there is a whole thread also http://www.head-fi.org/t/519457/1964-ears-the-appreciation-thread
Check out www.1964ears.com when you are ready, I got my customs from their and they did a great job.
Panasonic RP-HTF600 or however the letters are arranged. I love mine, best headphones for probably up to 150 quid, and you can get them for 40
Whilst I personally haven't heard them myself I find this a little hard to believe
would i get the most out of these with an STX?

Hmm my cheapy Shures don't sound too good either without a proper seal but they only cost me £40 something!
The foam buds seemed better than the rubbery ones they came with though! Long as you can get them down your ear. I can definitely be a bit tricky getting them off but as long as you don't try to wiggle them off you should be ok. Just need to slide them off slowly.
You definitely can't put them on that quickly but you soon get used to getting them over your ear and then it's easy enough as long as you've got both hands free
Sounwise... Well I hope your ones would sound a lot better What are you plugging them in to?
I am the opposite. I always prefer silicon ear tips to the foamies. I wouldn't write off your Shures just yet until you are 100% sure it isn't a fit issue causing the unpleasant sound.
Yeah the foam buds have an inner rubber sleeve which sits on the earbud tube itself. I remember that being pretty hard to get off at first :/
If you can get your nails under there to push against the harder rubber part instead of pulling on the foam it does help. Once you get them off once you can lube them up a bit lol
