what headphones do you own thread - i own dt150's :)

Change to my ownership.

My SE530's died with the cable breaking just as it enters the bud on the left side.

Went in a similar route and got the SE535's to replace them. These have detachable cables so that if you do damage that you are only looking at £30-40 for cable as opposed to £350-400 for new phones.

Got some ACS Custom sleeves to go with them too and am loving them so far....

Is there any truth in this 'burning in' that I hear mentioned a few times?

Yeah, though the difference compared to box fresh varies.
You've probably seen them comment on it in a lot of reviews for both headphones and speakers.

There are some who may argue that the headphone/speaker doesn't burn in, it's more a case of your ears adjusting to the way it sounds.
I personally believe that burn in isn't a myth in my experience :)

Got a pair of these as a Christmas present. Agreed on the sound quality, especially for their price. I use them for gaming and listening to music and they do a good job. I find they hurt my ears after awhile though. More to do with them being on ear rather than anything to do with the build quality or the ear cup material. Was struggling to find a decent set of over ears with my budget at the time though.

Seems there's not much choice when it comes to over ear and (preferably) noise cancelling headsets with a budget like the CALs (£50-£60). Any suggestions people? Don't mind paying more than what I paid for these for a decent set that won't hurt my ears.

You must have big ears?

Bought a pair pair of lindy premium HiFi headphones the other day along with a xonar dg, I think they're rebadged Fischer Audio FA-003's. I hadn't been impressed until i tried them in the rear speaker socket, for some reason the front panel will only output Mono to them so had thought they were a bit crap and that the dolby headphones effect was too. What a difference switching socket made, haven't played any games with them yet but chucked a couple of Blurays on and directionality seems excellent so far :)

Just going to be a pain having to physically plug the speakers back in when i want to use them.

They won't be. I listened to some music through a friends Razer Megalodon 7.1's and the sound quality was absolutely appalling. Litterally the worst cans I have ever heard for music bar some £2 Cosonic's, and the Razer's were £129.99, so it is fair to assume that Razers £169.99 offering will not be much better.

The HD595 will be a million leagues ahead in terms of sound quality, it isn't even fair to compare the two.

The mic might be good, but the cans will almost certainly will not be.

Unfortunately you were right. Sent them back ages ago. They were awful. I think people who hype razer are a) affiliated in some way b) have excessive ear wax

My MS-1s are quite a few years old so decided to give them an overhaul as there was a break along the cable and I was losing sound from time to time.

Here they are looking somewhat beat up.

Going to get a new set of headphones and an amp during the year at some point but these MS-1's have served me so well I thought it was worth giving them an overhaul.

For the comp, Grado labs sr125i cans, a Arcam RDAC, a graham slee headphone amp and some asus stx soundcard.

i couldnt part with 3G for one of those buffered 24bit chord dac's, maybe after a few relatives die i'll reconsider.

Just got some Hifiman HE-400 headphones after reading people prefer them over HD650's:

I tried them on for about 30 seconds before taking them off and putting my Sennheisers back on. They are quite heavy and considerably less comfortable than Sennheiser HD595 which are so light you can forget you're still wearing them.
I should have got the HD650 instead but there was no way to know.

Interesting, I would say give them a week of solid use before you make up your mind. You'll probably get used to the weight and the sound and be able to compare them fairly.

I personally own 595s and 650s but have been toying with the idea of the HE-500 as an upgrade, although I think the LCD-2 will win (when I've got some money lying around!).

It's that time again my goldring dr150's have almost cracked apart on the headband lol I am a sucker but if I can find dr150 or ns1000 cheap i'll happily pay £30-£40 every 2 years or so for a set.

I just cant get enough of the goldring sound signature.
