what headphones do you own thread - i own dt150's :)

It's that time again my goldring dr150's have almost cracked apart on the headband lol I am a sucker but if I can find dr150 or ns1000 cheap i'll happily pay £30-£40 every 2 years or so for a set.

I just cant get enough of the goldring sound signature.

I feel the same. The Goldring's really offer unbeatable sound quality for what they cost. I don't use headphones that much really, so although I'm often tempted to spend £150 or so on an upgrade, it really would be a case of buying something better, just to for the sake of it. I only have to plonk the DR150's on my head and have a listen, then any desires I have of upgrading, just goes away. :D

I shall be sad if mine break, as they can't be bought anymore, save maybe the odd pair or used.

I may have been a little more scathing on the Denon AH-D1100's than they perhaps deserve, although I still generally prefer the MDR-V6 depending on what I'm listening to.

I've just had a little session with both pairs and here are some observations.

The Denon's offer more thump/bass, but at the expense of accuracy and detail. It's a more coloured sound basically.
The V6's tell you exactly what's there and don't try to influence the outcome as much.
The V6's midrange is a little on the thin side in comparison, but results in greater clarity of instruments. They reveal everything whereas the 1100's can obscure details with their 'thicker' sound.

With thumping electronica for example, the 1100's entertain with beefier bass and more thump. The V6's provide more information and space with slightly less thump. This generally applies to most types of music.

It really depends on what does it for you as they both have tradeoffs vs each other.
Bassheads will prefer the Denon's. I prefer the V6 as it tells the truth.
If you're used to 'thick' sounding cans and/or are more into hiphop and bass oriented music, the 1100's are for you.
If you're more into the finer details and don't like gear that influences the sound, the V6's are more up your street though they can occasionally be slightly hard in the higher frequencies.

I guess it's roughly like the difference between a set of active studio monitors vs a set of floorstanders and a warm sounding amp.

EDIT: I can see why many would prefer the Denon's. With back to back listening, the V6's sound slightly thin until your ears tune back into them. After that, it's all good although the comparative lack of sheer thump is noticable. It's not that the Sony's don't have much bass. They do, and plenty of it. It's just that the Denon's are tuned to emphasize it.

When you go back to the Denon's, they sound very cloying, like there's a muffling veil over the sound. After 'tuning in', it's bearable I suppose. Still not for me though...
Perhaps a bit of eq is needed here.

EDIT2: The AH-D1100's are good for movies. That extra bass and slam makes for good entertainment, although voice reproduction is poor compared to the MDR-V6's. Voices come over much more clear and realistic, whereas with the Denon's, it's a more 'plummy' affair.

For pounding electronic music and with movies, the AH-D1100's are very entertaining and they are growing on me a fair bit. Using a bit of EQ to lessen the overblown midbass helps a lot and you can get these sounding pretty good although they still lack refinement.

I hope to grab a pair of Dt770's (probably Pro 250's) soon. Hopefully, they'll offer the best of both worlds.
Fwiw, I tried a set of HD650's recently and found them to very coloured and not to my taste at all.

Tried the momentum and bought them. Very good, great build quality, nice warm but powerful and detailed sound. Urinates on the top of the line beats and the 50cent ones from a great height. Well worth a listen ny anybody.

Apple Earpods until i get the rest of the money to buy the Sennheiser PC350SE Special Edition Noise Blocking Gaming Headset :D

Yea and the ns1000 sound better than the dr150 when amped even on an E5 amp.Same detail yet punchier richer tighter bass and soundstage.
To me it's still a no brainer for the money when you consider the sound you can get off the ns1000 for so cheap.I had mine must be what 4 years yes one side of the headband snapped but a bit of tape actually holds it fine to this day as they are so light.

Raymond, I thought you didn't rate the HD25? Unless I am confusing you with someone else.

What are your thoughts on the Momentum headphones? They do look very nice. :D

i don't rate their construction in terms of the nasty plastic but sound wise they are good I guess. I can see why people like them, and I can't deny it's indestructible plastic quality, nasty that it is. I was going to sell it but never got round to it.

The Momentum is my favourite out of the lot and I only had them only today! I like them for their comfort, easy to drive and build quality. First phones with real leather, not fake, but genuine English lamb leather. It is sweat and water resistent. I like the metal head bad with the quality leather stitching at the top. Love the in line remote and the little turn/lock on the end of the jack. It also sounds like a pair of open phones yet it is closed. Sonic quality it is very open and neutral, which i show i like them.

The Goldring I only use for long haul flights, because of the noise cancelling feature.

The HD600 is boxed up and never used because I use the HD580 more.

The HD580 needs new cable and new pads as I've had them 10 years now. (the cable in the photo belong to the HD600)

The HD-25II, not using them at the moment, I did at once point when it was snowing because it was my ear muffs :D

The HD495 is my least favourite because they don't stay on my head, very easy to fall off and the sound is the weakest of the lot.

The Sony is the bargain of the lot for its RRP price but it is a home listening pair of headphones. Very accurate, neutral and also comfortable.

The Momentum is nice because it can be driven by a phone easily, but i am not sure how it would stand to day to day use on the train and stuff.

i'm a week into my momentums and they are very good, maybe a bit soft on the highs but it depends on the music.

lol, it's not a show off your epic, elite gear thread :)
Well, not unless you want to of course.

Anyway, they seem to be pretty well received according to this:

Have you owned any of the beyers the Dt770 880 990 etc ? if so how do they stack up to those ? also which sony model are those ? how do you rate the momentums to the ns1000 when amped (not the onboard).

It's too early to fully put a verdict on the Momentum just yet^^ Give it a hundred hours of listening then you'll see.

Sennheiser has that trait, after 100 hours of regular usage more good things happen.

Grados are most notorious, very bright for the first few weeks then slowly but surely it mellows down and your ears are on fire every time :) The noise leakage though... Only reason I went back to Sennheiser.
