what headphones do you own thread - i own dt150's :)

Currently own DT 770 Pro 250's and a pair of AKG K7XX's but I dunno... something just feels missing. Use both for gaming and music and I can't really tell much difference in sound quality and struggling to see the appeal as both do get good reviews. Both get quite uncomfortable after awhile too. Both powered by a Vali but with onboard DAC if that matters.

Not sure whether to sell both and just get a good all rounder like the K712 or HD650.

get some Denon D2000

Great phone

Get a a decent dac

http://www.head-fi.org/products/denon-ahd2000-high-performance-over-ear-headphones

and bargainstic if you find some :D

130 quid cost new in a tatty box.

Great thud and low end with gaming plus great space....I had HD598 before and gaming is now enjoyable and intricate.

There will be hardly any difference between the K7XX and K712.

Ive tried the DT770 for a week as well, im surprised you cant tell the difference, sound stage on open headphones for starters sound completely different,

Will keep a look out thanks. A Modi to go with my Vali has been on my list for awhile but something else always comes up. Maybe come pay day I'll pick one up, probably brand new as they seem to be quite rare second hand.

Fair enough on the comparison then, I'll keep trying the K7XX's.

Maybe my ears aren't attuned in that case. Easiest way would be to have them both plugged in at same time but not possible on the Vali at least. I'm playing FLAC files too rather than low bit rate mp3's so I'm giving them the best source possible.

It could be what I'm hearing is perfectly fine with both, I just don't have anything to compare them to and being a bit of a novice I'm not sure what to look for.

I've only had pc soundcards before and headphones I could get for under £200 but I've got a good kit together now. The Mojo always runs from battery giving the silence I wanted.

USB mains hub > Audioquest Forest USB > Chord Mojo > Audioquest Nighthawk

I have to EQ it though because the Nighthawks are dull out of the box in terms of treble.

I tried some Schiit vali stuff but it was really terrible for mains noise even though I tried several units it's built to a cost. I also have an odac for my hifi speakers seeing as the mojo would be a pain to hook up to those too.

The noise from the Vali has nothing to do with mains noise, cost or build quality, it's just not designed to be used with low impedance headphones and the Nighthawks at 25 ohms are very low indeed.
The problem is the noise floor; put it with a low impedance headphone and the hiss is apparent but match it with something it's designed for, like an HD650 and the background is silent.
If you'd tried it with a Vali 2 then the result would have been quite different, as it has a low gain switch and is designed not only to work with high impedance and insensitive headphones but also low impedance headphones and IEMs.

The Nighthawks treble is neutral, it can sound dark if the treble is lower in level in the recording. So many people are used to sparkly and boosted treble they forget what neutral sounds like. The Vali is a great paring with the Nighthawks IMO but not for accuracy and speed, more for those late night sessions where someone wants a bit of a slower decay. I never found the noise floor to be an issue, I wouldn't pair of with something like the MA900 or IEM's but the 650, 600 and HD800 are all good matches.

The Vali 2 is a better option if you want to trade lushness for more speed, resolution. I think the Magni 2U is a more accurate amp then both, cleaner highs lower distortion but I still sonically, prefer the Vali 1. I love Audioquest products, they are works of art..they get a lot of stick for the price of their products but they make products in all price ranges so I don't get the issue.

I'm waiting for the Audioquest Beetle & Dragonfly Red Dac to drop, been waiting for ages. The Nighthawk doesn't get enough praise, my friend hates it, gets into full blown arguments on headfi about it LOL he's very knowledgable when it comes to audio but I've told him, you are wrong on this, he's stubborn.

Yeah and if you are a bass head the nighthawk can be eq'ed into an absolute monster too. I doubt I'll ever want more than the mojo though it goes loud enough to blow eardrums if I ever dared. Great WHF review on the jitterbug! Must buy one. Also I went with a £35 cable from audioquest because it was the only shielded cable series I could find with that connection and there was no need to go for the £200 one :)

successful, thread was successful aha

Im not sure if i mentioned it in the past, but i now own sennheiser hd600's with a yamaha steinberg ur44 interface.

Corsair Void Black 7.1 USB.

Honestly having used DT990 Pro's and a Xonar Essence STX II, There really isn't a lot of difference if any really, In games.

I recommend a liberal dose of Earex :D

No honestly no bull, Or any audiophile BS, Ingames I'm finding it extremely hard to notice the difference between the Corsair Void 7.1 and the DT990 paired with the STX II.

Music and movies yes the 990 and STX II blows the void out of the water though and into orbit.

What games are you playing? some games have really bad audio to the point it doesn't matter what you plug in. Games like The Last Of Us, Witcher have really good audio and you can really tell the difference between headphones. I use both of those games as a reference.

The Witcher 3 actually showed me the AD700X has problems with resolving small details, sounds are blended together, were as the HE-500, LCD-2, K701, K702 blah blah resolved really well. I basically go to the wooded areas when it's windy and there's lot's of cues to test.

The DT990 I've not tested on that game, but I did test the DT990 on games like Black Op's 2, Red Dead, GTA 5 etc and it was decent, not on par with the K701, Annies I compared them with but I would think they sound better than a pair of unrevealing drivers that are thrown into 99% of the Gaming headsets.

The Division, Alien Isolation, Far Cry Primal, The Witcher 3 and a little Dying Light.

So far these games testing with the 990 and then going to the Void have been indistinguishable and no I'm not deaf and don't need my ears testing before anyone says, Corsair just did a really good job with this headset.

As I said though in movies and music playing through WMP, Foobar etc... the 990+STXII blows the Void out of the water but in games I cannot tell the difference.

It might of just been my unit then. It sounded great with my hd 650, warm and smooth but it lost detail noticeably on the others without the benefits i felt it had with the hd 650. I gave it to a friend and he said a similar thing when he gave it back to me.

Odd, may just have been a lemon

I hope not as I bought it off you Angst!

mraerosmith1981's HD650 for the deskop with a Xonar Xense soundcard.

Some unsellable HD598 for listening around the house when I wear glasses.

Momentum on ear for listening around the house or out when I wear contacts.

MX685 for running and MX170 for everything else.

I like sennheiser.

I am thinking of getting a DACamp upgrade for my desktop but I don't know where my current sound card ranks among other solutions. I bought it cause it has sennheiser written on it and is shiny (I'm not joking).

Any advice?
I prefer warmer funner(?) sound and only listen in stereo (despite being from norfolk I only have 2 ears)
