what headphones do you own thread - i own dt150's :)

which headphone cables do people own ? thinking of buying another fisual s-flex mini for my x1's the old one didn't last THAT long before one channel went.
Anything better more durable with the same low resistance ?

On a side note the more I read around and watch reviews the sennheiser hd 600 seem to be one of the best around many preferring them to HD 650.
I think HD 600 will be my next pair.

The Xense was an early version of the STX (£135) and you want an upgrade for £100?

Stick with what you've got, the Xense / STX still holds it's own at that price level.

Seems to be the end game I am approaching myself. My friend who bought my SoundMAGIC HP200's a while back has lent them back to me for Easter and he has taken the Grado SR225e's. Really liking them again, kind of wish I had not sold them.

Round and round I go until I bite the bullet and either go for the HD600, HD650 or the K712.

Only thing which I am totally satisfied with is my TEAC UDH01 DAC/AMP. Cannot fault it for the £100 I paid for it. It is a keeper.

Also going to buy some AKG Y50's for work. Music and the odd conference call.

Decisions decisions.

A lot of people in the past used to like the HD600 over the 650 because many people were still used to that typical tuning(top heavy, bottom light) The wasn't as bad but still has some elevation just before the treble or spikes.

Most people nowadays lean more towards the HD650 because it's better damped, smoother, more natural response through the mid range and gently rolls off without any spikes or serious dips. Both are fantastic headphones.

I think the HD650 and HD600 is end game for many people, headphones like the LCD-2, LCD-3 are side grades unless you want that bass extension the Sennheisers miss out on.

Anyway,

My Nighthawks have roughly 40-50 hours on them, Apparently it takes 150-200 for the rubber to fully soften..can't imagine them getting any better than this as they are dead silent between notes and quick, clean and the whole frequency range can be heard.

I did say I have no idea how good the xense is. I got it for £30 second hand so assumed the value wasn't very high.

Currently own a pair of AT M50's

What should I be looking at for an upgrade and an improvement in all areas upon the M50?

Fully depends on the situation and price. If you need a closed can then NAD HP50 are very good and come in at £170 ish. Also consider the Beyerdynamic dt150 but comfort and aesthetics may be a problem.

Open cans will give a larger variety but depends on preference. Philips X1/X2, Sennheiser HD600/650 or AKG Q701 are all very good but ultimately come down to personal taste.

Two wild cards to also consider are the Oppo PM-3 which are a tad more expensive at £350 or the Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7 which I personally found slightly sibilant but others have really enjoyed.

I just got a KabelDirekt 3m 3.5mm Jack to 3.5mm Jack Stereo Audio Cable - PRO Series cable, have to say sounds better than the s-flex mini's it's actually opened the mids a bit more on the fidelio x1's and sounds livlier wish I'd ordered 3 of these now instead I ordered 2x more sflex and the KabelDirect but for me the kabeldirect one is the best and it's cheaper.

I got Kabeldirekt RCA-3mm and 3.5mm-3.5mm purely because I liked how they looked. Got some Fidelio X2 today for £126, brand new, slightly damaged box.
I'm going to sell the 1st edition K7XX Red's when they arrive as the X2 will cover all my needs

sennheiser px100 mk2, paired with my sansa clip when out and about.

i managed to break them but i've just ordered some more. currently 20 squids on amazon. bargain.

i just love how comfortable they are. :)

I was looking at ordering some more... but at 45 quid, they can **** right off. :D

I guess I need to look at something else that won't make a rapidly approaching middle age git like me feel like a doofus wearing them in the street. :p

They can indeed at £45, especially when they can be as low as £20 from time to time. That's what I paid for mine about three years ago and are cheap at that price really. We got a pair for my dad for Christmas; £35, after I returned some cheap Sony headphones because they were rubbish compared to the Senn's. Worth paying the extra £15 or so.

£35 is as much as I'd pay for them though.

You can use camelcamelcamel to track amazon prices and it looks like the 20 quid thing was a one off back in 2013...

I always considered 30 to be a fair price. I suppose the £:$ is weak at the moment but it doesn't justify the kind of hike we're seeing. Like you say, 35 would be acceptable.

edit: Just noticed that you posted in response to my post back then...

Nice. So glad you posted this info.

I have been considering getting a pair of MKII to replace my MKI, which have been playing up recently. Last time I looked they were £30, which isn't too bad. £20 is a great price though. :D

Just picked up a set of Bose QC25's. I'm not much of a heaphone guy but I had some reward points from work sitting idle and a flight from Aus to the UK coming up so thought I'd get a decent set of noise cancelling cans.

I must say, these do NOT disappoint

Sound blaster X7 arrived this morning. After playing around with it, it's a solid little device. It was easy to set up. A few first impressions compared to my Mixamp the X7 is cleaner sounding, less processed, more resolving - In Metal gear solid 5 the detail on a can of fire was easier to hear, the crackle and pop was very distinguishable while with the Mixamp you have to hear harder. I still find the Mixamp more accurate in locating sounds but it's warmth and less resolving capabilities get in the way of some hidden games sounds I wouldn't be able to locate without serious monitoring.

Music wise, I tried it and it sounded so bad, thin, overly spacious then I realised I had the settings in surround sound. I changed them over to stereo and it was much better. I find the sound similar to the Fiio sacks, a tad warm, a little aggressive up top but full sounding overall. Resolution has taken a hit compared to the Mojo but this is an all-round device.

That's all I can really say for now as I'm still not familiar with it. I dunno if I'll do a review but I'll give some final impressions in a few weeks.

Oh, interesting. Looks like we got them at the right time then. :D

I think I was a little concerned at the time because some people didn't like the MkII; too much bass or something. When I first tried them, I don't recall thinking they were too bass heavy. Although the cable is a bit shorter, I like the one sided cable design more.

Got one arriving tomorrow as it happens. Loved the versatility of it. Will be using with X2 and K712 for gaming. Don't really listen to music.

I'm pleased with mine - my SE846 sound really good with it

A little issue with it is sometimes the volume gets crazy even on 2 so you have to turn it on and off. Really annoying and I've read this is a common issue so be careful you don't damage your ears and your gear. I'm def going to roll op amps on this thing as the stock treble is a little too rough. I've also noticed in games people voices are lean, lacking weight so the stock sound is def on the lean side.
