what headphones do you own thread - i own dt150's :)

K712 pro's turned up today.... Wow. Just going through the RATM album. Bass is so much more extended (I guess that's the term?!) than on the DT990s... everything seems so spaced out too. Noice.

Philips Fidelio L2's - Nicest headphones I have owned/used.

I also have a pair of wireless sennheiser HD120's and some cheap steelseries 4S's that came with my chair.

A little issue with it is sometimes the volume gets crazy even on 2 so you have to turn it on and off. Really annoying and I've read this is a common issue so be careful you don't damage your ears and your gear. I'm def going to roll op amps on this thing as the stock treble is a little too rough. I've also noticed in games people voices are lean, lacking weight so the stock sound is def on the lean side.

I haven't noticed the volume thing but I'll keep an eye out for it.

I'm a Sennheiser fanboy. 5 pairs now!!! I use HD700's the most with my pc. The most comfortable and i love the sound with my gaming. Great for hip hop and electronic with a 6db bass boost, then when im pumped up for another deathmatch, i jump ingame turn off the bass boost and now i can hear every footstep.

Sound blaster X7 arrived this morning. After playing around with it, it's a solid little device. It was easy to set up. A few first impressions compared to my Mixamp the X7 is cleaner sounding, less processed, more resolving - In Metal gear solid 5 the detail on a can of fire was easier to hear, the crackle and pop was very distinguishable while with the Mixamp you have to hear harder. I still find the Mixamp more accurate in locating sounds but it's warmth and less resolving capabilities get in the way of some hidden games sounds I wouldn't be able to locate without serious monitoring.

Music wise, I tried it and it sounded so bad, thin, overly spacious then I realised I had the settings in surround sound. I changed them over to stereo and it was much better. I find the sound similar to the Fiio sacks, a tad warm, a little aggressive up top but full sounding overall. Resolution has taken a hit compared to the Mojo but this is an all-round device.

That's all I can really say for now as I'm still not familiar with it. I dunno if I'll do a review but I'll give some final impressions in a few weeks.

Was quite tempted by the X7 so will be interesting to see how you get on rolling op amps on it.

AKG K267 Tiesto Headphones here. They are great, the audio quality is sublime. Perfect for music/TV/Movie.

I also own Sennheiser PC323D Headphones with mic these are more for gaming.

Is it easy to replace them? If they don't cost too much I'd like to see if I cna tell the difference.

With an extraction tool its relatively simple though a little fiddly to get them in if the pins don't all line up nicely.

Op amps can cost anything from pence to a couple of dozen quid each.

i think you have summed it up well

Ah ok I may leave it then as I wouldn't want to risk breaking anything. I really like the device, yes it's pricey but it's super convenient and means I have less wires.

Unless you get the op amps in the wrong way around you can't really break anything - the sockets are pretty robust and if you do damage the op amps the stock ones are "relatively" inexpensive to replace.

The only thing to watch out for is that the LMEs are single not dual op amps so sticking duals in their place wouldn't be a good idea.

EDIT: Slight complication (though there are plenty of alternatives) the stock LME49710 used in the X7 aren't made any more in DIP packages so availability is a bit low for replacements if you did break them - plenty of others that can be used though.

EDIT2: Oh and the NJM2114D is no longer made for consumers lol :| though mouser still has a few thousand in stock.

Ok,well game on then. Really just want to experiment with it. Not sure which spec ones to buy either as there are lots of numbers I have no clue about!

There is a list on the creative website of tested ones and someone else did an article with a few more http://www.head-fi.org/t/756102/creative-sound-blaster-x7-detailed-review-impressions - though some they tried like the opa228 probably won't work in there as they either aren't designed for unity gain stability or need a gain of atleast 5.

While requiring a bit more DIYing - the problems Ryan highlighted are often associated with the LME series if they don't have a 10uf audio grade capacitor across the power supply pins - but not knowing the circuit intimately not sure if creative already had something like that or not.

I'm curious if their implementation is by the reference circuit:

http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/pcm1794a.pdf (page 20)

If so and 10uf rail to rail bypass caps aren't used then sticking something like an Elna Silmic II, Nichicon FG or KZ on the LMEs could significantly improve the sound.

NE5534 in that diagram as the 2114 on the X7 (IV stage) and LT1028 where the differential to single (LME49710) are used.

Just received my JVC Kenwood Victer stereo headphones, model HA-SZ2000.

The Bass Heads dream I was told, and it hasn't disappointed, it litterally thumps you for bass, not the greatest all around headphone, but good for dubstep/dance
