Are you talking about a specific religion here, are you still referring to Christianity or now rambling on about Islam etc etc? Care to show some evidence for this? There are extremist in all walks of life, not just throughout religion, I mean take a look at your views in the first post!

Would getting rid of religion solve the problem of intolerant people like you??? Since no doubt you would focus your efforts on to another group of people.

You know, the US was founded by pastors, and I suspect quite a few of them are turning in their graves right now...

Religious, political etc systems are always vulnerable to manipulation. This has been true ever since man settled in organised communities..
 
As with absolutly everything else in the world there are good people who are religous and bad people who are religeous

There are people who find believing in a higher power helps them get through their lives and that religion provides them with a moral guide that they love. I say good for them, if they are happy that they have this in their lives then all the best for them.

There are people who take things too far and want to hurt/kill people who think differently to them. These poeple aren't exlusive to religion. Football hooligans for example, they want to hurt people who cheer for a different 11 people who kick a bag of wind around than they do. Shall we ban football?

I always post a similar thing when threads like these appear, and feel like a broken record but surely it isn't an inordinatley difficult concept to grasp. There are good and bad people from every background/walk of life.

The Church of OcUK's day is at hand. We are spam posters. We could possibly be legion, at least occasionally, though like most meets it'll wind up quickly. We do not forgive trolling or stupid no-bread posts. We always forget our points, letting threads descend into anarchy. Expect us, sometime once our suspension is up at least, though not on a tuesday. That's prime overclocking day at the linux club.

The OPs coming across as another "calling for religion to be banned" but its ok to be intolerant to others as long as you’re not religious types from his posts. Well done for defending him.

People have agreed that the example used in the opening posts does show that there are a proportion of religious loonies. No doubting that but not all are the same. And there are plenty of people who do very bad things without the name of religion.

Maybe not, but common sense and thinking about the real world issues today, instead of most of the population of the planet wasting there time putting all there energy into fairy tales, would make the human race progress further.

Its surely a step in the right direction to think and look at real world issues and sort them out, instead of doing pointless activities.

It's not the "Dogma of the Church". It's the dogma of their church, which is a key distinction to make. Any nutter can start talking rubbish and claim to be part of any given religion, but that doesn't make it so. These people do not represent mainstream Christianity any more than (brace yourself Daily Mailers) suicide bombers represent mainstream Islam.

1) et al means "with others" as in other people, not other things. You should use et cetera.
2) Yeah, some people get wound up about fantasy novels. The same thing happened with Tolkien. Big deal. Again, it's not mainstream.

It's vitriol, not vitriole.

And it won't end until the end of the world. Get used to it. Most of us will be perfectly peaceful about it. A handful of us will be misled and get militant about it. Same with every clash of ideologies.
