WHAT, in God's name

Maybe not, but common sense and thinking about the real world issues today, instead of most of the population of the planet wasting there time putting all there energy into fairy tales, would make the human race progress further.

1) Prove that they are fairy tales. (Clue, you can't. Feel free to discuss this matter with Dolph)
2) Prove that they're a waste of time.
3) Prove that progress would be greater without them. You might want to bear in mind the amount of progress made by, say, the Romans, Greeks and various religious peoples of the Middle East throughout the course of history.

Religious people would argue that the "pointless" activities are important in fixing things around the world and in sorting ourselves out for the next world.

I agree with you in principle, but telling people what they can and cannot believe in is also a step in the wrong direction. Anywway, who would we let decide what is and isnt constructive?

Why don't you actually try to back up this sweeping statement for once.

Your making baby kittens cry :(, common sense sir, most of the population in the Arabic world spend many hours a day doing nothing but kneeling on the floor with there hands together , millions of people make weekly visits to catholic churches, and the hardcore 'western religions' also prey every day, eastern areas have huge amounts of people spending the majority of there time in religious tasks...etc etc

As said if everyone on earth spent 30 mins a day sitting down and trying to figure out the best way to tackle life's issues and, say sent them all into one point, maybe an internet vote ! :D , and then actually acted on these ideas, things would progress much faster.

Better than sending ones wishes to an imaginary friend, but im sure that much is obvious.

Pointless activities like spelling and grammar?

I don't honestly know if you intended that spelling mistake but Freud would doubtless be proud.

You are assuming that the ideas could actually solve the Worlds problems and that collating them would in some way help. Big assumptions there.

Take a room full of people with your opinion, that science is “the fact” and there is nothing else out there, and the sheer quantum of arrogance, ignorance and self belief would likely open a rift in space and time. It certainly wouldn’t get things done or progress the world. :D

Well, I won't necessarily think all religion is bad, obviously there's moderate forms and such, but I do think it should be illegal to indoctrinate your children with religious dogma. They should be able to grow up and think for themselves, make their own judgements and perceptions on the world, THEN decide if they want to be part of religion. Forcing religion upon them at an early age is akin to caging their mind and not allowing it to grow any further.

Can you use the word "Christianity" or "Islam" or whatever rather than "Religion" because half of the stuff people are saying does not apply to all religions.

Just to throw this into the mix, remember Jesus didn't invent or teach Christianity. Christianity was created after the death of Jesus and here lies the problem. Main stream religion is totally misinterpreted, far too over organised and with so much dogma and nonsense. It's quite frankly cult like.

However this does not blind me from the message and wisdom at the heart of some religious teachings.

The only wide spread religion that is actively dangerous in this is Extremist Islam. Regular Islam from what I have seen brings up very nice, well rounded people. Children brought up under religious doctrine have no worse a influence on their lives than once brought up by parents who are chavs, alcoholics, are violent, abusive (mental / physical).

In fact, apart from extremist sects of religions, can you prove your statement is of any substance?

Is this not the same thing? Since what Jesus taught was Christianity in its foundation.

Right... So are you also going to get everyone to stop peeing time up the wall watching TV, playing computer games, getting drunk, etc so that they can partake in your half hour world improvement program? Good luck with that.

Erm, yea Jesus did. He mentions several time about the need for him death, and that people need to believe and trust in him in order to be saved and come to a living relationship with God

Its not religion that's to blame its all down to one factor and its not idiocy based around one religion, religion is used by the inept to carryout lunacy in the name of anything they can add meaning to their cause/ranting with. Religion is a victim of its own followers and always has been. If god had a red phone for use in crisis (wonder if he plays?"Crysis") and some nut rang to say we are going to do this in your name old boy, im sure fire and brimstone would come down that line. Anyway if there is a god im also sure he has a dam good laugh at some of the garbage said/done and implemented on his so called behalf.

I've expanded what I meant above, I was talking about the church as an organisation was not created by Jesus. I can't imagine the man being too pleased with what was going on at Christian Camp last night.

Whilst I'm sure your post has some merit, and is not at all spam or brown-nosing, please be more succint in your rationale. Perhaps you would care to explain why, or how, you came to deem us twits, whilst making no useful comment whatsoever on the content of the original post.

Do you have an opposing view, a different view, any view at all?....if so I would be delighted to hear it.........unless of course you have to talk to someone else first to tell you what to think??!!

This, I am looking forward to;)

Couldn't really give a useful comment cos you gave me nothing useful to work with(plus I was sleepy). Thankfully the sane people here(most of them) have done the work for me

and who the hell are you to decide how people should think?
You sound like a dictator and not even a good one at that.

stupid is because. Religion shouldn't be whipped out and it has nothing to do with people thinking he meant "kill all religious people". Removing religion is stupid and wont solve even one problem.

Pointless activities? again why should you decide what is pointless?
Many religions do look at world issues from charity to morality and everything inbetween.

Perhaps you should open you mind and go study a religion. Just so you can understand it.
