What is a good salary in UK at present?

Some people are happy on no wage, well just living off welfare. Or are they kidding with themselves?????
My one brush with benefits :
I lost my first job, I went in to the benefits office to go on whatever they call it. JSA maybe.
They looked at my accounts or whatever they do.
"Where is all this money from?"
Working mate.
"Sorry you have too much saved".
Oh, cheers.

That was nearly 20 years ago.

I think if you can be happy on a low wage you have found the secret to a nice life.

I genuinely mean that.

IMO it isn't about a high or low wage, it is being comfortable with a lifestyle where you don't have to worry about money (mostly).

Life should never be about just affording the essentials or vice versa chasing the best for the sake of it/as a badge.

Looks like you were given the wrong info.

Contribution-based JSA is paid for up to 6 months, but only if you paid enough Class 1 National Insurance contributions when you were working. You can get it even if your partner works or if you have savings.

People need to contribute. I have zero time for people who sponge or who feel they are owed something. Not the same for people who can't work of course, but those who see their 'lifestyle' as time rich, sofa comfy, give me benefits should be in a land fill.

Housey for president.

I'd worked for 5 years up until that point. I didn't know what to do or what I was entitled to. We might be entitled to stuff now and not know it.
Probably not though, we both work and have no kids.

Personally I dont really care how much a woman earns or works however, if they are not working, I expect the home to be kept clean/tidy and dinner on the table when I get home (unless, of course they are volunteering/full time carer etc)

Come at me GD for being sexist :p

My missus works and does all of those things. I guess I need to keep a hold of her then :p.

January and Feb are always the best months as no council tax to pay :p. Then I realise I have 3 lots of car insurance and 2 M.O.T's at that time!

My gross free is about 66% although I still want more! I quite clearly don't take many risks in life.

Seems like poor people worry about making money and rich people worry about losing it. Everyone has something to stress about :p

The only people who don't seem to be able to fail are politicians, because they made it that way for themselves :/

You on about billionaires . On the subject of degrees, I think stem ones should be free and subsidies by other pointless ones. The partner of a guy I work with did a physiology degree, then went to teaching a primary school and now works in a call centre. I think students should be pushed into useful professions (not just those requiring degrees), there's always a need for trades too, but my gut feeling is that a lot of youngsters don't want to work hard and just expect to be paid megabucks. I think the "influencers" (or cancers as they are) on the likes of youtube have warped reality for some people. Most jobs involve hard work at some point imo.

The amount that they would have to offer me to do overtime would have to be silly, somewhere like 5x my salary hour rate and then I wouldn't see it for decades as I would put it in my pension for tax purposes.

Don't get me wrong, I would work longer if needed to get the job done as long as it's not a task of Sisyphus. I would rather claim the time back.
Been asked by people/companies can you come round and do x,y,z and we'll pay you, I just politely decline as I prefer to have more "free" time than money.

Don't get me started on side hustles... if the side hustle is worth doing cash wise, why isn't it your main job? most people would get benifeit more by doing their main job better, taking more responsibility or even just more hours (overtime) in terms of money and future prospects. The only time I would consider a side hustle is when it brings me new skills, knowledge and experience, in which case I wouldn't expect to be paid a lot if at all.

I'm guess I'm in a stage of my life where money isn't a driving factor.
