What is it that makes people hate Apple so much?

I wouldn't say I hate Apple as per say but some things royally annoy me about them (some of which could be applied to other companies).

Why do I have to use MTP in order to control my music on my iPod/iPhone and more specifically why I am I forced to use iTunes - no I don't want bonjour, thanks. I try and stay away from Apple stores because I find their employees within stores irritating beyond belief, I assume they are told to behave in an arrogant and pompous way. Why do Apple have to sue for even some of the most pedantic issues, trademarking app store? come on and their marketing - championing of copy and paste when it was blatantly a Nokia idea.

On a more personal note, I find the real geeky people (such as those found here :)) would move products if there was a better offering elsewhere but the amount of douche's who arrive at my desk asking for MBP/Airs/MacPro's without a legitimate reason deserve a punch in the face (I've noticed they tend to arrive from HR/Sales/Marketing ). For example a rather lofty director was adamant that he needed a MBP as opposed to a Latitude, needless to say I spent many hours having to teach him OSX equivalents before becoming fed up and boot camping the system with Windows.

I have a Nokia that I know is **** but I just don't care as it can call and text, like a phone should!

You'd be genuinely shocked how many people I've heard say this, yet I lend them one of my phones to try for a while and then they find they can't live without a smartphone once they're used to all the features it provides.

The "I don't use my phone much, just for calls and texts" isn't a valid argument because I guarantee you that you'd use it more if it was a decent smartphone.

Every person I've come across that bought an Apple product IRL only did so because they thought it was the best for no reason other than 'It's made b apple'.

You also admitted in point 1 that an Apple Mac is not better than a self built PC.
yes , for someone who wants to self build or play games.

But as I said, if I was going to use Windows 7 on a PC or a Mac, why would that make any difference other than the mac having older, already out of date hardware at a higher price?
what ?- why would you do that. No one in their right mind would buy a mac to put /only/ windows on. Although it works very well the only benefit would be to get the form factors you cant get in the windows word. Eg mac book air ,mac mini

I also dont think that any mac has a better build quality than the PCs I can build myself - do they come prefitted with gaming / overclocking grade motherboards, components and custom coolers? Why pay the same amount, if not more money for an Apple mac fitted with a bog standard motherboard, cheapest possible ram, and a standard boxed CPU cooler when I can build a PC with Asus RoG motherboards, MSI twinfrozer graphics cards, Crucial or OCZ SSDs, Samsung Hard Drives in Raid 0, and the latest and fastest Intel CPU with a nice custom cooler overclocked to over 4 Ghz?

you dont get it do you. If i buy an orange i dont complain that it doesnt taste like an apple? You are complaining about this fact.

Actually you're wrong there... As I've already explained in one post...

Secondly have a look at the Samsung Series 9, available in 11 and 13" versions, along with a few other manufacturers.

The Series 9 is beautiful, however it's also more expensive than an Air... Which means an Air wiped for Windows makes a lot of sense for people. After all, it is just a laptop. If Apple truly were that much more expensive than their competitiors then it would be different, but they are not...:)

What youve just said there proves my point? To buy a form factor win pc that matches a mac is either impossible or expensive.

generic excuse for "i'm making a baseless claim and i can't back it up" ?

I reckon so.

To be fair, when I started I actually had the 3GS vs Desire thing in my head, as that was the choice I had when I brought mine, so if I'm being honest I did make a bit of a **** up and maybe should say I was wrong.. :p Had the specs of the 3GS in my head for the 4 for some reason.

I have nothing against Apple. In fact some of their products are good and they have done well for themselves.

I think most of the stigma comes not from the company but from the deranged, brainwashed loony fans you get who praise nothing but Apple. That BBC3 documentary on it was quite interesting with the people outside the new shop waiting for it to open and then start screaming and fapping when it opened just to play on things they already have. The same could be said for anything really with fanboys be it a new console, game or book but it does seem more prevalent with Apple, probably because it's more common so there's more of them.

Mine is completely redundant. My sister gave me an Iphone she had finished with when I went sim free and for a week I played around with it. It was ocassionally useful in the house when I wanted to look at something quickly and not turn a pc on.

My wife has an Ipad now which i think is one of the best bits of kit I've bought in a while. We both love it and now my phone doesn't even get used in those scenarios.

I just want a phone for calls and texts. I do though prefer making texts on the touchscreen. I use about 50mb of data of my allowance per month. For me they are still a pretty pointless device for the money they cost. :)

App wise there is nothing I've found that useful except a depth of field program that I've used 3 or 4 times, the rest have been games which again are now redundant now we have the ipad.

You get away from Apple's pricing. It is very expensive for what they are, but they create good products that appeal to the masses. I used to be anti-Apple, until the time came for me to buy a new laptop. I wanted a laptop that looked good, was powerful enough to do everything I wanted, and was well built. The MBP did all of these and I could not find a Windows based computer that could offer what the MBP did. Once I got into using OSX I really enjoyed it. The complete package is brilliant, and whilst I still use Windows everyday and enjoy using Windows, when Im at home I love using OSX.
I can definitely understand why people hate Apple, being an ex Apple hater. Most of the time its hardcore windows fans and tech geeks who hate Apple, but the normal everyday users of Apple devices have embraced Apple with good reason; they make fantastic user friendly products that appeal to everyone.

They are massively overpriced for what you get. They also hold back innovation by making up patents for everything while releasing basically the same thing every year, even though none of their ideas were their own to start with.

I suggest you go research how many patents/year Sony, Toshiba, MS and more, register before bashing apple for it.

Its pretty much the norm for every major corporation now to go 'Oh i have an idea! Will it work? maybe .. lets patent it anyway!'

No one cared however until it became obvious Apple are doing it too.

Superficially this may be the case, but with Apple you also get excellent warranty backup. Warranty support is a key issue that needs to be factored into the cost of the product. Have you ever tried getting a repair with Dell, Acer or any of the other low end manufacturers?

If you compare Apples prices to the likes of Song, Lenovo and the like, there really is not that much in it.

I'm sure some people have had an awful experience with an Apple warranty, but from my experience the quality far exceeds the rest of the industry.

In the end, something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay. They may not be worth it to you, but the growth in product sales and associated profits indicates that enough people think Apple products are worth it.
