What is it that makes people hate Apple so much?

I consider myself somewhere inbetween both apple and microsoft are good companies. My only problem with macs is the price tag, seems like you are paying abit too much just because it had that little apple logo on it. Same reason i dislike lacoste and those sort of companies paying for a logo rather than the product. I am a big fan of OSX though.

My dislike for Apple stems from the fact they treat everyone as numpties. Their technology is more or less aimed at noobs of the tech world and is very restrictive for those that actually know how to use tech.

Marketing is always OTT - zomg look its a tablet - we invented it!, errrrr - theres only been tablet pc's for like the past 10years!

Not to mention recent dodgy practices trying to shun competition out of the market (i.e. Samsung copyright claim)

Just because it's easy to use doesn't mean they're treating people as numpties. Why shouldn't tech be easy to use?

I've been using computers for over thirty years, I've been an IT professional for about 26 years, I know very well how to "use tech" but I don't find Macs restrictive. I've grown up, I don't feel the need to have to fiddle all the time to make things work. There's nothing wrong with technology that's easy to use.

^ This.

In OS X if I want to tweak I can.

However 99.9% of the time I can't be bothered.

There is something to be said for a easy life. :D

100% agree.

I know how to use tech, I just don't enjoy spending time on it any more.

When I was younger I built a water-cooled rig that had the reservoir and heat exchanger in the fridge next to the computer.

Now all I want is something I can turn on and use as easily as possible.

It keeps coming back to: if you know the limitations of a Mac and decide it's not for you, that's fine. Don't buy one.

If you know the limitations of a Mac and decide it is still for you, that's fine too. Go and buy one.

Anyone who bursts an artery over other people's choice of computer (either anti- or pro-mac) really needs to get out more.

Exactly. I use my Macs at home to do some quite technical and demanding stuff. I am not treated like a 'numptie' but rather I am being given a tool that lets me do things with the minimum of fuss.

Agreed. Life is too short. Who cares if I like my iPhone and Joe Bloggs his <android handset>

Surely if you need to tweak things to get things to work the OS isn't doing its job properly.

+1

I guess it's time for the car analogy.

The 17 year old wants a 'sporty', 'fast', car that has big spoilers, and he can fit aftermarket exhausts and 'stick on tat'

When he gets older he wants something comfortable, reliable, don't need to be overly maintained, etc, so you get nicer car that doesn't look like it crashed into halfords. Sure it's maybe more expensive in the first place, and the younger ones say they can get twice the performance for half the price.

Meanwhile, practically no one who drives a car knows the first thing about what is under the bonnet. Hmmm.

It's usually more like they re-invented it, which they do have a good track record for.

You're right - Samsung have never sued anyone and not currently engaged in loads of litigation over patents and copyrights.

I'm in two minds about them. Their products are fantastic, but as a company I dislike their ruthlessness towards their staff, other companies, the ridiculous patents they hold, their constant lawsuits and how smug their taglines for the products and keynotes are. Further the recent product images that they gave to European courts that were edited to make rival products look more like their own to sway the court decision is absolutely disgusting.

There increasing dominance is worrying as mobile device sales of other manufacturers are dropping rapidly, I'm worried we'll get to a stage where there is no competition. I am about to buy a macbook air though because there's nothing that compares to it at the pricepoint for such a light laptop.

Samsung Series 9, if you really don't want to buy the Mac it's pretty damn close. Still, you're right that the MBA is the best at that form factor.

I think you might have got that a little bit wrong. (ok a lot wrong) lol. :p

I dont neccessarily mind apple, i do think their products are overpriced just a tad. though the new airs are pretty competitive.
I think their lawsuits are barking mad and if their not careful Samsung will drop their arrangements with them (given that they supply what 40% of the iPhone?) and then they will be up **** creak for a little bit.

I find their press conferences hilarious - they have trully figured out the art of preaching well to the blind and stupid.

Also this. Again.

I've just gone Mac and iPad after 20-odd years of deliberately avoiding Apple.

I still dislike some of the philosophy, which I frankly can't justify to be honest (my dislike, not the actual philosophy) and am slowly coming round.

Thing is though, compared to using my PC several weeks ago, I definitely feel my daily computing home life is now a shedload easier!

I can see a lot more people are going for Apple products these days. I think when the next line up of iPhones/iMacs/MBAs start to come out regardless of the price they are tempting so many people to purchase their products. Very little do they go wrong, an easy life I say.

Coming from an xApple user, I don't think I hate Apple, but they over sell the "it jsut works" thing, a lot of cases its doesn't really, a lot of things don't work that well on OSX, at least for me..and I know many MANY Other people who feel the same.

Now that I say that, when I sit and try and explain it, Apple users will usually say " thats rubbish" and completely dismiss some things that dont work well on OSX etc, thats where the air of smugness comes along.

Hardware wise ill always love their stuff ( except prehiperials like their Mouses, they haven't ever made one good one I don't think, not that I have used and always gone to 3rd party Razor ones), same for customer satisfaction/ care.

My current hate was their attempt to get the Samsung patents thing, it was idiotic and the judgement pretty much went against Apple today, showing them to be stupid and foolish in their thinking. But thats been a call on some kinda management level.

I think theirs a difference between hate for Apple/ the company..and hate for users, but even when I used all iMacs etc...god I hated how they talked about things in those videos for product releases, its like a tehnological pedo grooming vid trying to lure you in, its just damn creepy.

Also I work as a Graphic designer/ mixer/ music production.

Those might be some reasons, jsut my own reasons tho but having general chats with poeple who sill use macs etc all the time tend to say the same kinda things.
