What is the most beautiful car of all time?

Is the rallye not a GTI with some more plastic glued on to it and wide arches? You can't say it's the most beautiful car ever, come on, just admit it!

I just think its too much of a co-incidence that you also happen to own one.

Because god forbid someone ignored common sense and got something they WANT.

I understand what you are saying, and that's fine. But I don't need "credibility" for my opinion now do I? Especially since the topic has nothing to do with sensibility or how good a particular car is. :o

But if it makes you happy its closely followed by an Shelby Mustang 500 ;)

Not far off, but its about beauty not technical side of things. :)

The golf is a technical and clinical 80's german hatchback. Technical, clinical and beautiful don't go together. As much as i love mk2's, i'd never say it was beautiful.

Technical and clinical in a different sense than the mk2. The golf was always function first and form second, it wasn't designed to be a beautiful car, just a family hatchback

I'm pretty sure it was also designed to look nice as well though. Also is it not conceivable that as an accident of function over form a beautiful object was created?

I would agree with a fair few mentioned already.... Muira, Dino, 300SL. I would definitely have to add the XK120 to the list and the Auburn Speedster:

Not in the case of a Mk2 Golf though. It's a fairly generic hatchback from the era, albeit one of the better built ones. It's no more beautiful than a Peugeot 205, or an Astra GTE.

Wow, I'm not sure its possible for somebody to miss the point in a more spectacular fashion than you have :p

I'll bet it is - and you've been here long enough to know that...:D

But add me to the DB9 crowd.

To most people (snobs), a car is only 'beautiful' when it's also expensive which makes threads like this awkward, and guaranteed to be filled with pictures of exotic cars.

For example I often think the Peugeot 406 Coupé is a beautiful looking car, but most people won't agree with me because it's a mass produced Peugeot and would think it has to be expensive to be beautiful.

Just my 2 cents :)

Cars are always compromised in some areas, exotics typically dispense with practicality and comfort in order to achieve jaw dropping looks. The 406 Coupe, whilst undeniably a great looking car, is a mass produced model designed to appeal to people who need to carry more than a toothbrush in the boot, who wouldn't put up with having to climb in and out of a car, who want good visibility from the driving position. Ultimately this compromises it's styling.

It is however, vastly better looking than a Mk2 Golf :D

Ah yes, well I wasn't forwarding it as my choice for the most beautiful car, I just needed an example.

I personally don't have a choice. Taste and beauty is all in the eyes of the beholder and there is not going to be any one single car that everyone could agree on.
