What makes you proud to be English?

How do you do that then?
You'll see if we should meet.

There is far to much moaning in this thread, perhaps you should all move abroad.

Why?

I like living here, thanks. Just because I am not 'proud to be English' doesn't mean I want to leave nor that I should.

I'm proud that many of our systems and innovations have been adopted by other countries, such as our legal and financial systems, and language in particular. Hopefully in some small way we have made a difference in the world.

However that can be accreditted to being British as much as being English.

It has come to our attention that a number of the posters on this forum have committed the heinous crime of discussing and expressing free thought.

Rest assured the proper authorities have been notified of this unauthorised gathering and the crime of using “proud” and “English” in the same sentence.

Please remain seated as your location has been logged and a collection team has been sent to collect you.

You will be taken to a re-education centre at which you will be reintroduced to the term “Multicultural Britain” and have a small portion of your brain removed that has caused this breach of No Free Thinking policies of this organisation.

Once you arrive at the centre you will report to the third room on the left where you will sit in the red chair, someone will be along to discuss the matter shortly there after.

Thank you for you compliance.

Most of the things that make me proud to be English are from our past. It seems our last real sense of pride comes from WW2.

There is very little about modern england that makes me proud. We're a country afraid to celebrate our nationality, slowly being overcome by benifit sucking yobs.

With the average size of the typical english family declining all that will be left for this country will be the those on the dole and large ethnic families that continue to thrive.

England is no longer the great nation it used to be, and has slowly been taken down from the inside for years.

Where do you see england in 2 or 3 generations time? I see a very different population.

Congratulations, that had nothing to do with the thread.

Run along now.

Places like Cambridge.
Us being smaller in size but better overall than many countries.
Our history.
Military sucesses.
Used to own everything in the world.
Our language is one of the most widely spoken(although not very well in some cases ;) ).
Football and Rugby.
The people that fought and died for our freedom in wars.
Our patron saint slayed a dragon etc.

The best thing about being English is watching the football, drinking lager by the gallon and then kicking off and smashing the place up!!!

Yeah. Embaressed. Right.

Football & Rugby about it.

then the fact our country is turning into a **** hole etc  I'm just finding it an unpleasant place to live. Increasing crime, the whole "we dnt give" society, the 99.9% chance of getting stabbed to death when walking down alleys at night, the fact that you work DAMN hard and then find it all going to the appaulingly awful government, which in turn is then given as £15 billion donations to Africa and the rest. There are things called charities Brown! /Optimist :D

If I had the choice between New Zealand and here

Seriously, are you immensely intelligent or extremely funny?
It can't be anything physical if that's a picture of you in your signature, no offence:)
I think that you need to learn to take Penski with a pinch of salt. Improves the flavour, na'am sayin'?

To answer the original question, nothing makes me proud to be English. I'm proud of my own achievements, not those of my ancestors, and certainly not of the achievements of people I just happen to have been born in the same country as.
