What "man jobs" have you done today?

House side.

It's the 22mm pipe that comes from the mains gas valve which is outside - as I know now it comes through the wall and then runs the length of the living room inside the wall. I was only putting a bracket on the wall to support a cat tree and went straight through it. I didn't think that was the route it took at all.

Ouch. What do you do in that situation and how are you going to put it right? Can these be patched up or does the whole pipe need to be replaced?

Initially I said "GAS", whacked the power off and ran out to the meter to shut the gas off.

Well the gas is turned off at the valve so it's not leaking at the moment, just no heating or hot water.

It will need the damaged section removing and replacing with a new bit. The annoyance will be needing to hack off the plaster etc to actually get to the pipe.

I'm glad it wasn't a lead pipe - regs don't allow them to be repaired, you have to have the whole run replaced which would have been a massive pain in the arse.

Got a couple of gas men coming round to quote this week.

The last 72hrs I have used a Hilti 1000 mini Kango to smash up nearly 9tons of walls concrete and just about anything else made from stone you can imagine, on top of that I've moved said 9tons of rubble in a wheelbarrow onto my front drive. Not happy with the 9tons of excavation I also found another 1.5tons of natural stone and moved that to another location in the garden to keep it safe. Beers and sleep oh and a very large steak have kept me alive!

Ouch.. I feel your pain! When we moved into our new house over Christmas I could smell gas, got someone out to have a look and they confirmed there was a leak but the meter valve was seized solid. Had to get the meter valve replaced then, being the Christmas period I was without heating/hot water/shower and hob for a week until I could get someone in to replace the whole lead pipe from the meter throughout my house! To top it all off I put a nail through a heating pipe a couple days after I got it sorted.

Wife had to go to Dentist yesterday so as we have to go past where we get logs from I hitched trailer up.

This was a free transport run as we had to go anyway.

360kg was unloaded today and stacked in new log store. - Stocking up for next winter.

Where do you go? Our last lot came from Good Wood Stock in Prees.

Completed a few things over the weekend.
Laid 9 stepping stones in the garden lawn from the patio to the shed area.
Removed a section of dead grass and replaced with transplanted grass from the stepping stone holes.
Shaped some 1cm wire mesh into a leaf cover for the garden drain.
Cleaned, sanded, filled and then did 3 coats of paint onto the external wooden sections of the living room windows.
Chopped down untold branches from my rear neighbours tree that were annoyingly growing into my garden.
Re-siliconed the bath.
Had the car washed.
Measured the kitchen and drew a rough floor plan as I am planning to have my kitchen redone.

where did this one come from? Are you happy with it? cost?

I've no idea where it came as my partner bought it, think it cost about £350.
She was disappointed with the number and size of the cushions so has bought loads more to lush it up, along with loads of LED lights to hang around it.

Started the process of pulling down the horrible built in wardrobes in the soon to be master bedroom. It's only a small room, approximately 12 ft square, so why the **** would you fit wardrobes that take up 3 feet of that

Now I just need to take it all to the tip next weekend. Then I can get on with decorating it before baby #2 turns up.

Does anybody have a recommendation of how to safely break up the 1 door we've got left? I don't know how I'll get it to the tip if I can't break it up. We gave the other 3 away but as this one's got a massive crack in it I don't think anybody will want it.

P.s. Prying bars rock :D

Fitted a new light in the kitchen. I forgot to take a before photo so here is one of the old fitting already down.

Two of the holders didn't make good contact so I'd have to frequently get the steps and j-j-j-jiggle them about a bit. This was annoying (not to mention, potentially dangerous).

Went for a double 4' strip light (IP 65) with two 18W LED tubes. Not a great picture - not surprisingly, it's quite difficult to photograph a light when it's switched on.

Pretty pleased with the result. Gives a good, bright light. Just what's needed in the kitchen.

Edit: Also racked my home-brew beer into the pressure keg and re-potted my chillies.
