What "man jobs" have you done today?

Painted the hall way in the new house to a denim grey colour, it's totally transformed the look!

Managed to swap all plugs and switchen to a nice brushed steel, and installed the thermostat.

Glossed all the spindles on the stairs, which took ages! all door frames in the process, as they looked very yellow and yuk!

Just unsure if i should carry on the colour up the stairs, any suggestions?

Lovely work I would carry it upstairs we did and it works a treat :)

Cheers!

I think we will carry the colour up the stairs, we still have 1 and 1/2 tins left so should be able to do it. The hallway only took two coats.

It was magnolia before with horrible yellow glossed door frames and stained skirting boards.

Did a few compound miter cuts for neighbour - 12 x2x1 - 6 left hand and 6 right hand - you only have to blink and mind gets confused - all came right in the end as once saw was set up it was cut 6 from left and 6 from right - Then had to spend 30min finding out why saw was stiff to move left to right - seems after standing it must have slightly rusted on ring it turns on - just touch of thin oil and lot of left to righting and it was free again. - Also found blade that came with saw isn't proper wood blade - more a do it all blade so will get it off tomorrow and see if I have one laying around - if not a ten pound order to Toolstation for a new one. - I have some of my own cutting to do soon.

Wired up a new outside light by back gate - wish all electric jobs had been as easy as this - up through the eaves to a fused switched spur in loft that feeds the light on the other corner.

Also did a Heath Robinson - I needed to drill up through board into loft so needed to stop dust dropping down onto my new chuck - Good job I collect the red tops off 1 ltr Bleach bottles - drilled same size hole in top of cap and pushed it over the drill to protect chuck jaws from the dust.

Had a crack at levelling and over seeding the back garden today.

- Mowed
- Scarified
- Top dressed with top soil and compost
- Over seeded
- Watered

Should have nicely filled in the bumps and dips where the mower was scalping it on the lower settings. If not, I'll have at it again in 4 weeks!

Why do you collect the red caps from litre bleach bottles??

Fitted a carpet in our bedroom.

It used to be in the dining room and was pretty new, but since we had the downstairs extended we had a new carpet in there and moved the old one upstairs. It replaced a budget one we bought to "put us on for a year or two" when we moved in. About 13 years ago! :D

Carpet itself wasn't too bad to fit but dismantling the bed, removing the furniture and a full wall of sliding wardrobe doors was a pain.

Spent the weekend redecorating the master bedroom and en suite: sanded and oiled the oak floor and skirting, then got a first coat of paint done.

The next couple of evenings will be sorting the second coat, then replacing all of the existing lighting.

It will be first first finished room in the new house so quite excited to be able to move into it asap.

Thought someone might ask that - wife and I have very weak hands (we are old) and neither of us can press top down and turn at same time - so once off I put a modified one back on - I drill hole in top of cap then squirt a load of hot glue in - it locks the inner and outer together - sometimes a modified one goes out with the empty bottle so need some spares.

Finally -finally started to make a window for the Summer house - needs a small one on back wall to give through ventilation - Got bench saw out on workmate up top of garden - all the dust will blow in the field - need to cut out the rebate the glass sits in and also on the other side the rebate where window closes against outside - took me ages to work it out as once set up I wanted to run all wood through at same time for each cut - first cut and start of cut was deeper than end of cut - fiddled about and finally got all cut's done then started to put them though again to get some ridges off and noticed the blade kept dropping -- Was my own fault I should never have tools off my brother - The motor on mine gave up the ghost so he was getting rid of it because he is old like me so I had it.

Got it upside down and took a look and there on the end of the threads was pair of nut's - just undo lock nut and tighten - bit late now as I am knackered but at least when I go out to put finishing touches it will be a easy job.

Doing this used to be a pleasure - now I find it frustrating and make silly mistakes - the old adage of "Measure twice cut once doesn't apply to me"
