What "man jobs" have you done today?

Chaps,

Am going to have a massive push this weekend on the PIR/wiring/ethernet job in the dining room (at least) and potentially (stretch goal) the living room.

The boards I lifted in November basically disintegrated when I pulled them up. I am planning to "try harder" but I think inevitably I'll need to lay some big ass plywood boards to give a decent surface to glue any LVT/solid wood/engineered floor (massive TBC and potentially a fair while awy).

Am I nuts to grab some massive 6mm ply boards from Wickes and throw those down a surface?

2nd question - how do I seal the edges of the floor? What's the best sealant?

Thank you!

Used a jackhammer to break up the concrete patio.

Filled a large skip last week using a sledgehammer but resorted to using a jackhammer for rest as the concrete turned to 6 inches thick and a sledgehammer was doing nothing except straining my elbow.

Easily another large skip full.

So the building still causing me major headaches, the main wall was about nearly 2 inches out from bottom to top so boards dabbed on and bonding to level.

This wall couldn't be boarded out as it would make the entrance too small.

Window came with a to snugger fit so needed chipping out and skimming and broke one of the glass panels, was hoping to have it all grouted this weekend :(

Why not just replace the boards if they are falling apart 22mm chipboard is cheap enough

Did wonder this myself. Sounds easier to just replace the broken floorboards with new floorboards or take the whole lot up and lay proper sheets full thickness.
I watched the Gosforth video where he put back pretty ropey boards and said because he was overboarding it wasn't worth the expense.

Tbh I managed to get 2 boards up pretty cleanly today, so my plan is to relay what I can then buy new. The boards will probably sit closer together with the tounges cut so I'll need at least 1 or 2 more boards anyway.

I had considered doing 22mm chippy but seems sacrilege.

Anyway, last day for Tool Station tomorrow! What do people recommend for...

* expanding foam to fill gaps between poorly cut PIR? :)
* And is there a genius way to cut PIR beyond a wood saw?
* Also my DeWalt multi-tool blades are weapons grade compared to the Amazon crap I had been buying. Is there any recommendation for decent blades or I'll grab some more DeWalts?

And finally - I have started stripping the wall paper. The plaster seems ok but I want to paint directly onto the wall. What skim can I do myself? I've seen a few roller systems?

Made some significant progress in the garden in the last few days. We've gone from a boggy muddy mess to somewhere which is not far off completion. Jobs were:

1) Fit new 2.4m fence posts at the back just beyond the retaining wall to reinstate a fence line at the edge of our boundary. Was a real pig to do as it was a sloping muddy mess.

Managed to get them fixed into the ground as far as possible with spikes then cemented them in.

2) Then set about painting about 45 x 4.8m 38x19mm battens so they could be cut to size and installed in-between the posts to create a slatted fence.

3) Started to paint the side fences too but they are absolutely drinking paint so think it may need a couple more coats to get a nice consistent coat on - or we may decide to keep the washed out look.

4) Had help from the brother in law and a few of his lads to shift in 5 tonne of top soil to bring the level of our lawn up and then lay some new turf down

5) Our kamado BBQ arrived so that got built and burnt in!

6) Oir Aldi garden bistro set arrived too which we put together and can start to use now.

Just have to wait 4-6 weeks for the grass to root in and establish before we can take down the little wire fence we have and officially "open".

only remaining jobs to do are finish painting the fence, shift in a tonne or so of slate chippings to go at the end of the garden and round the borders and then give the patio a jetwash as I was a bit liberal/careless when painting the battens!

I know all of this is useless without pics but I'll try and upload some tomorrow!

Grass cut yesterday and then double run with the scarifier just now...

Onto the core aeration tomorrow followed by top dressing with 70/30 before overseeding on Mon/Tues (weather dependant on the top dressing as you can't do it properly if it's wet)
